Was a police helicopter. You can see from the picture. :(

The Police Roll of Honour Trust tweeted "Our thoughts are with the crew of @policescotland SP99 helicopter that has crashed in Glasgow - hoping everyone is alright." :(
-
That looks bloody nasty!! :( :( :(
As an aside if you look down at all the comments below the photo, there are lots of media outlets asking permission to use her photo. So before long that photo will be on all the news sites. Interesting.

Sounding like a controlled, albeit hard, landing... flat roof must have been a tempting target :-\
No sign of fire though, which is definitely a good sign... no word on fatalities yet either, another positive...
-
For some of the descriptions it sound like it was autorotating to try and manage a controlled landing. :(
No easy options in a built up area. :(
Hope everybody is okay.

May have been trying to get to the river to ditch it in there and didn't quite make it. It looks to be within 100 yards or so from the river. :-\

Yep, and a gardens the other side of the road. :-\ Thoughts go out to anyone caught up in this. I can see the potential for some nasty injuries, maybe fatalities. :(

Autogyrating is what is should be. When the engine fails it is a method the pilot can use to bring the helicopter down and a, just about controlled manor, pilot pulls up ont the cyclic? been a long time, and uses the blades rotation in the up position to slow it's fall, that is laymans language cos it's late....... :D :D
I enjoyed? this experience in 1974 in a Royal Navy Wasp Helicopter, off Portland Bill and no we did not get wet cos the pilot reengaged the engine, he was just practising...... :D :D :y

I sort of understand the theory behind it, as even with the engines running, the blades are only spinning at 1-200rpm. So falling out of the sky, engines off is broadly similar to gliding with alot less lift, and a bit less control, as the blades will only manage to turn at a fraction of their normal speed :-\
Practiced to death in the simulator, but the reality of such manoeuvres in an emergency leaves alot to chance :-\

Terrible news :'(
Just said on the news that the blades of the helicopter were not rotating when it fell out the sky :(
-
Not detracting from the gravity of this terrible situation, but.....
just watching BBC News 24, and the pratt who was interviewing Milliband made the statement..'There have been a couple of police helicopter crashes in Scotland over the last decade or so, is it not time to question the use of police helicopters'
Where do they find these idiots from !!!!!!!! >:(

Just heard on the News at least 6 people dead, but unconfirmed, bit confused as to the unconfirmed, guessing some people may still be trapped inside, 11 hours later?
