Title: Back End Jobs...

I've got a couple of back end jobs I'm going to attack tomorrow. Any comments?

1) Fuel Filter - Why oh why oh why did the idiots at Russelheim think it was a good idea to use those quick (hah!) release clamps on the fuel lines.

2) Rear track rods. These are the later version and different to the Carlton/Senator ones that I'm used to. I assume it's just a loosen off the locking nuts (one of which is left hand thread), pray,  and heave on the center adjuster. I've cleaned it all up today, and left them wrapped in a WD40 soaked rag overnight, but I haven't  tried to budge anything yet. Are these new designs as prone to seizing up as the older Carlton ones? The inboard one looks bent to me  :-X

3) Had to take a caliper off today die to a siezed/very stiff piston in the OSR. So i now need to bleed the brakes. Any issues with an easybleed on these?

Fuel filter is quick to undo if you have the correct tool, got mine from machine mart I think. Easy bleed works fine I use it all the time as for the rest your on your own, I got WiM to do mine :y

When someone tried my to change the filter on my old 2.5 estate they buggered up the pipes and ended up putting fuel pipe and Jubilee clips over the pipes. I cut the pipe and put a filter between.  It worked but when I looked at putting it right the job of replacing the pipes just wasn't worth taking on.

This thread appears to have shrunk. We were having an interesting discussion of the merits of fuel filter removal tools, but it has vanished. Or am I confused?

To answer my own questions....

1) It's fiddly, and you really need three hands, but the quick release tabs can be operated by 2 small screwdrivers. Once the second quick release tab is released, the tie wrap like strap retaining the body of the fuel filter to the chassis WILL auto-release and pi55 petrol all over you. ::)

2) Yes - the new design of track rod arms seize up just as effectively as the old Carly/Senny design did. Had to abandon this job since I didn't have time to remove both track rods from the car. The rear tyres don't currently wear much, so best to leave well alone till I've got more time to free things off properly.

3) When easybleeding - make sure the internal pipe in the bottle doesen't fall off. If it does, you end up pumping pure air into the whole braking system, and spending the next 3 hours rectifying your mistake. :o

Has anyone found this tool helpful? I have the 3 piece set, and found it not help. I have doen the job with small screwdrivers, but it is tricky and risks damaging the hole connector. I should love to find an effective and reliable tool.
