Hi all ive a 2.5 v6 99 plate omega its been great car used every day ? today it started fired up then cut out ? tried it several times if i feather the gas it eventually starts and revs no prob but idles rough (and the light ecu light came on ) . left it at home off to work like you do ! tonight i disconected the egr valvecable and it ran a dream ? (do i need to trick the egr valve wires ive reconected them ) so ive blanked of the egr valve ,it was ok for 10mins then it all started running rough again and sounded like it was trying to back fire up the air filter ? i removed and check the air filter pipes etc and cleand out the icv ? it ran a treet went for a spin loads of power till i did a u turn it died ??? managed to get it running eventually after feathering the gas to get it home . yes the ecu lights on and i will check the code tomorow . is there a list of codes on here for that engine . any help guidance would really be apreciated (my first thought was fuel pump relays but it runs ? )

How old is the fuel filter ?
-
ill will change fuel filter tomorrow , and i am looking at the maitanace guides thank you for replys . ill let you no how it goes on

Disconnect MAF mate and try it then ;) ;) Had the same on my old Elite, ran ok with maf disconnected and a lot better with new maf fitted :y :y

Had a similar problem - lack of fuel in the tank :-X It would (on starting) manage to kick in enough fuel for a cough and a start but not enough flow when running to keep it going.

The estates are a bugger on low fuel levels :-X

Right, so back to the basics and the symptoms (avoiding the willy nilly approach, sorry people :P).
The engine has stored a fault code (as the light has been on), so start by flashing this out as it will potetnialy give more of an insight as to the route cause (see maintenance guide if unsure how to do this).
Given that blanking the EGR had some effect, it may be related, what did you use to blank it off? (as thin materials such as coke cans can burn through quite quickly.
The symptoms are those of either an air leak or the EGR sticking open but the fault code will help us to take it further.

Just as an aside, the hot side connection to the EGR valve (when you remove the corrugated pipe) happens to be the same thread size as a standard 15mm end stop plumbing fitting. Not much use for the manifold end unless you remove the rubber seal though!
My installation uses non-EGR manifolds, so had to block it off and keep the valve. Seemed easier than removing it and fitting a coke can (yes, I know)?

I had a similar fault on my 3.2, then the wife's car. It lasted many months and I could not cure it. It turned out to be too small a battery. I changed the battery for a new Vauxhall trade club V6 battery and the fault disappeared.
