My eldest lad & family live on Hartlepool Headland and he is currently stranded in a massive traffic tailback that has crippled the whole town! The Headland is flooded and closed to all traffic and the Pilot Pier 3/4 mile from my lads front door is now totally submerged! My Granddaughter and her mum are stranded at her dance class on the other side of town & neither my lad or me & swmbo can reach them as the town is gridlocked! What is it with this Country these days? We dont seem to be able to handle anything like out of the ordinary weather as we did years ago! Yes, I know there are masses more cars on the roads these days but there appears to be a total lack of advanced planning by the Authorities. It is not as if this tidal surge & weather wasn't expected fgs! >:(

Not much you can do about a tidal surge, Phil, except maybe build a big wall all around the country.
-
Scary times...We got the call from the Enviroment agency last night to prepare for flooding.
Luckily our area has escaped, but not a nice phonecall to take.

That'll help with the opportunists tourists too...
Seriously though, a mate of mine is a lifeboat crew member in Clacton, shall give him a ring tomorrow as I suspect he'll be busy the now :-\

Rumours that the surge could be big enough to wash Clacton completely into the sea. Wheres the down side to that then ? ;D ;D ;D
-
If and when that happens he will most likely be in the lifeboat ;D
Potentially moving to Colchester might grate a bit though :-\

Parts of Middlesbrough and Stockton also affected by flooding, in area's not usually known for it, homes evacuated in Portrack Stockton, Power outage in Middlesbrough has caused traffic chaos as the traffic lights have also gone out...... :o :o I have been lucky on my travels today........ :)

They think it is going to be the worst storm surge since 1953 when 307 people lost their lives and about 40,000 homes were flooded.
So for the people in the coastal areas I hope they stay safe and their houses aren't flooded.
We can't currently change or control the weather, so the best we can do is accept and accommodate it. Bad weather affects everybody's lives in different ways.

Colchesters a dump, but compared to Cracktown on sea, its paradise. :y ;D

No but more money could be spent protecting the East Coast. In some parts the government have already given up. maybe we could ask the Dutch for advice
It would be interesting to see what is happening tonight in Northern Europe(Germany and the Netherlands) but as usual our News Channels are full of Britain. EuroNews has gone down which is a pain.

East Anglia was condemned by the Morons in the last government >:(
-
Because no -one votes Labour in East Anglia. Not as daft as they look you see. ;) ;D ;D

[tongue in cheek]
Rhyl is underwater
Newcastle is flooded
Scotland closed after 142mph winds
E Anglia is about to be returned to the sea......
.....meanwhile in NE hampshire an oak leaf got stuck under my wiper blade.

Strangely enough, we are just outside the flood warning area (by about 2 miles max) but if the flooding comes it will cut us off as it will cover the roads ::)

I moved out of Boston, Lincs a couple of years back thank god, I'm only 10 miles away in Donington, but have a lot of family there. They evacuated people into the local sports arena. They are now evacuating said sports arena as it is on a flood plain!!!! Good to know the years of planning have not been in vain!!!
A mate that I used to work with has a house about 200 yds from the main river witham. He spent all day putting everything upstairs and his house now sits in 2 feet of water.
It's amazing to think that the river witham is usually at least 20 foot below the bank even at high tide.

Whitby is under water.

Whitby is under water.
Yes it is, and it is some height between normal sea level and the quay side...... ::)

Had some on our local News, fish quay side well flooded, and area I know quite well, so can only assume the other side where all the older shops are is equally flooded, though it does go uphill - never seen anything like that in Whitby before..... :o :o
-
Well, looks like the whole east coast had a kicking overnight :-\ Going to take a while to clean up...
-
We were relatively lucky... Water was just under 3' deep on the quay but the flood gates held, albeit with a (relatively) small amount of seepage.
Unfortunately my Sister in Law decided to "park" their "new" Merc in some floodwater ::) Not looking good, although it's been taken to a reliable garage instead of the fitters who went "it's oppsed and full of water" ::) It wasn't that deep when she drove through... Wasn't even over the sills ;)
