nothing wrong with a V8 if you have the money to run it....also the disco2 rots just as bad as the disco 1 the only thing with the 2 is more electrics to go wrong :y

with your problems getting into that one will be a problem as no side steps (£250 a set) and a 2 inch lift and so it may not get into a multi story

Was thinking LPG  ;) So disco 1 will be the best option . What about the diesel , are they renown for reliability ? Seen a lot of high mileage ones  :)

you will always get a petrol with lower milage...as for LPG check the prices for V8...disco 300 tdi is the best out of the two no problems apart from rust and...check for timing belt change on a diesel as V8 is chain driven

Disco's are very prone to rot all over - areas particularly prone are the boot floor and the rear arches.  The sunroofs always leak (there are 2 of them) most of them will be sealed with sealant but still leak from the surround.

Have a look on Landyzone.co.uk and you will see a few of the common problems on there and there may be a buyers guide.

On that particular Disco in your link it looks like someone has modded it up to be a mud plugger so maybe view before you bid as it may have been battered round quarries and fields.  Wipers are not parked properly so could indicate electrical problems,

All that said - I have a 4.6 V8 Range Rover and love it to bits, bought it as a 3rd car but I always pick the keys up if popping into town, 12MPG is a bit frightening but that aside it's a great car.

Not to much wrong with the diesel engines, I bet anyone with a V8 that its timing chain will be stretched and the cam plus followers worn (not a great engine the old Buick 215).

But the rot is awful on them and hence why those of us who look after landies buy the mot failures and rip the diesel lumps out them

Surely most of the ones on the road now have had all the rot issues sorted with full mot's  :-\

Our Disc 2 which is the TD5 has 205,000 miles on the clock and still kicks out 30 mpg, look for rust by the fuel tank as mud collects and rots out, if the c/locking does not work it will cost £80 a door to put a new unit in. Sun roofs are an easy fix, manual 5 speed are better than the auto's. 99 plates still get £2,000. If your going to run one you will soon know them inside out and under.

Exactly, most of them have patches welded onto patches for each MOT. Decent unmolested Discos are out there,  but are rare. As are ones that have been repaired properly.

Personally, I'd be looking for a  manual V8 with LPG as a cheapy, or a TD5 if the budget ran to it.
