Title: range
Post by: ronomega on 10 December 2013, 17:51:34
Hi all, the range on my trip computer is just saying 0 miles when there is petrol in it. Any ideas?

How much petrol are you putting in? There have been occasions if I put less that 10 quid and the tank has been on 0 miles it won't register.

How much fuel is in there?
How has the car been driven? Foot to the floor or like riving Miss Daisy?

If you cane the car, the mpg will drop hence the range will fall too.

..... if I put less that 10 quid and ..........

Is it worth the effort of putting so little in?  ;)

The FC isn't that good at detetcting small amounts of fuel going in.

Yep, sorry. Just trying to decide if there is a potential fault with the computer, or whether you just thought the range was too low compared to the gauge.  If the gauge is working correctly I can't see the range showing zero without the light? Trying to get it straight ish in my tiny mind  >:(

In the old days we had cars with a "reserve" tank of fuel.  Now we have electronic systems that seem to allow for "an extra" amount in the tank when the gauge shows zero :D :D :D :D ;) ;)

Range CAN show zero without the gauge light being illuminated. Example: you have driven it like mad and have avg of 40litres/100 km. You have some 15 litres in tank. Light will not be lit as it comes on with some 10 litres left. When driving still like crazy avg consumtion is still high and after 10 kilometers you'll have 0 range and still 10 litres in tank--> no light.

Gauge light and MID do not communicate together. MID just calculates averages and bases range on an average. Gauge shows actual status of fuel levelk in tank and neither of these are very accurate, especially gauge is not.

Slightly off the topic, I have driven Omegas several times to range 0 and never ever have been able to fill more than 70 litres. Tank is allegedly 75 litres. The only time I have ran out of fuel with an Omega was one with TID (no range display) and it was interesting. Filled 7 litres from canister and tried to start, nothing! Had to fill 15 litres before it started.

I had a 10 mile range warning earlier today, with still around an 1/8th of a tank, and no light.

Might have to put some petrol in in, the warnings are annoying.

If there was a fault in the system that the system recognises (duff gauge or duff sender) then it sorta tries to help itself by saying 'fault' on the display.

That's what mine does every time I plug in a trailer. It kills the fuel gauge and screws the readout as a result. Unplug the trailerboard and everything back tickety boo again!   :y

Worth resetting the 'Range'? Keep your finger on the R button until it displays - - - , then it 'might' register something, just a thought.
