Title: Diff fluid top-up
Post by: Webby the Bear on 16 December 2013, 21:39:45
Hi guys,

As above I want to top up this bad boy as I got a leak from the pinion seal. Is there a special procedure i.e. top up when car running or can I just jack up drivers side, locate level plug and fill it til it runs out and drop it down to allow excess out?

I also see from the fluid change guide that I need SAE90 hypoid oil for normal diff.... how do I know if its a LSD?

Cheers :)

Highly unlikely.

If you can get to filler plug, no need to jack it Steve

ps I assume putting LS gear oil (with the extra additives) is not a problem to go in to a non lsd diff?

that reminds me... i had to take the plenum off to locate the GB breather so i took the opportunity to clean the crankcase breathers. put it all back together and noticed that the two o rings from breather bridge to throttle body are leaking vacuum.... checked this with carb cleaner.

only replaced these a few months back and they've never been disturbed since. I'm wondering what your thoughts are on popping a layer of black cam cover sealant round it?

You'll only have to clean it off when you fit a new O seal  ;) ;)
