Might be a duff thermo switch on the radiator, but note that the fans will run after switching off if the engine temp is above a certain threshold :y

Thanks I will check it out, thought the fan did that as well but you have to literally unplug the wiring at top of radiator also noticed the aux coolant pump disconnected could it be related?

How long is it running for after the engine's off?
If it's running continuously and you have to unplug it to stop you could, as ETA says, have a duff thermoswitch. Also check basic things like for debris in front of the radiator, coolant level, coolant condition (age) and air in the system.

Thanks again for the reply, had a bit more of a dig into this and maybe could be the wiring of the twin socket on the towbar as it says in the handbook use the fan fuse but there are 2 and looking at it it appears to be in fuse 4 so maybe getting permanent feed I have just recently bought the car with this fault 2.2 diesel what do you think? :o

That won't be helping the radiator efficiency any, meaning the fan might run longer after shut down...
If you car has an aux pump below the expansion tank, (might not being diesel), then swap with that one if the radiartor mounted one isn't working :y
