Title: Temp Gauge on 2.6
Post by: Nobby on 27 December 2013, 22:06:43
Temp gauge doesn't work when heater is switched on.  Turn blower OFF, and gauge gradually starts to rise, and stays
at about 80-85. Surely sender, and sensor must be working otherwise gauge would not move at all.!!
Can anyone help??

If gauge is moving then it indicates that electrical connecter is still attached to sender unit and power is getting to gauge.

Sounds like the thermostat is struggling to regulate the flow of coolant correctly and car is running too cool and with the cold air hitting the radiator when moving you are only circulating luke warm water.

Check top hose for surge of hot water from a cold start on fast tickover ,with car stationery,to establish if stat is doing its job and not just letting top hose just gradually get hot.If so thats you first place to start ,after that give system a good flush especially heater matrix pipes at bulk head flushing both ways with a running hose.

Check thermostat .. start engine from COLD and leave idling, stand with one hand on the large pipe from the thermostat to the top of the radiator, wait .......

What SHOULD happen is the pipe stays cold until a sudden surge of HOT water as the thermostat opens .... if the pipe very gradually warms up over time the thermostat has failed open and the engine, and especially the heater matrix circuit, is never getting to the correct temperature

EDIT .. beaten to it ... ^^^ but agree totally .. :)
