Title: Where do I buy a good water pump these days?
Post by: terry paget on 08 January 2014, 19:56:30
R706FHD 1998 2.0 petrol manual estate
Above car is due a cam belt change. I recently lost a 2.0 when its water pump failed, losing timing and wrecking the engine. I had changed its cam belt and water pump 20000 miles before failure. Are Vx pumps trustworthy?

Their quality has dipped, they went from metal blades to plastic. But so far all good from my side, used GM water pumps from 84k to 167k

My 2.2 is due one at 173k, prob get Vx pump, might source belt elsewhere.

V6 pumps are silly money though.

I paid £78.70 plus VAT for a 2.2 water pump plus some gaskets in September last year. Autovaux want £29 For a 2.0 water pump.

Sounds retail price, not trade club?

I thought that Quinton  Hazell no longer existed. I bought my last pump from buy parts by but it was not QH as they said these were no longer available. Up until now pump seems ok. Metal impeller.

BuyPartBy list a water pump at £11.96 inc. VAT and cam belt kit at £51.04 inc vat. Autovaux list timing belt kit at £42.13 and a water pump at £29.00, no mention of VAT so probably to be added. They do mention Quinton Hazell recommendations, but do not specify makers of water pump.

Says QH on the invoice and on the box but perhaps it's not then?  ???

Oh well it's been fitted today so fingers crossed  ::)

Thanks, Tall Paul. I see that the 2.6 Water Pump says QH, that's good enough for me. But the 2.0 X20XEV pump, at a very reasonable 11.96, does not say QH. It's probably OK, it's just that I had a dodgy one fail last year and it took the engine with it.

I think that that is the one I got from Buy parts By but I dont think it was QH. I specifically asked for QH but they said no longer available and this is the replacement.
