Post by: bulkybob on 08 January 2014, 20:57:14
hi everyone its me again here goes I have noticed that a couple of times when I start the car up the engine sounds a bit ropey and when I move off it takes its time to change up a gear does anyone have an idea what it could be ? it doesn't happen very often just now and again (car is  52 plate with 88k on the clock if that helps) any help gratefully received as I'm definitely NOT a mechanic LOL  :-[

Gear change longer is normal first thing, especially when colder time of year - it's making sure the fluid is warmed up asap

Running rough at start is a bit more difficult. Obvious thing is the plugs - get GM (Bosch) ones and some would advise 4 prong instead of two.

If it's ok when warmed up and also starts ok when warm this is more likely it.

Also doing the plugs allows you to see if engine running ok by the condition of the plugs
