:( I did something similar when I was a daft teenager , I was under my triumph herald ( that gives my age away ! ) just using a scissor jack , the car moved and tipped over , luckily my father was close by and he got the car jacked up again , ever since then I've been very cautious about working under cars  :(

Very sad, condolences to the family, however, unfortunately it is not the first and it won't be the last ... :(

Folks are often in just too much of a hurry to take the time to make the car safe on stands ... the idea "I'll only be a minute nothing will happen" is, sadly, too prevalent and too often wrong. By definition "working on the car" means applying forces to it, such forces are easily sufficient to unbalance a flimsy jack

Thanks to Capt Zok for publicising this tragic occurrence, it may be just enough to make someone else think twice, so avoiding a repeat.

There, but for the grace of god... :'(

Even on a level, smooth surface, you can't rely on scissor jacks, but trolley jacks will slip just as easily :-\

I was taking a towbar off a grannie some years ago when the diff dropped and trapped my right hand. Luckily i
could just reach a large screwdriver to lever it up and drag my hand out. Learned me a strong lesson.
Thoughts to the family of the deceased.

My late father in  law who was a mechanic , had a mk 10 Jaguar come down on him years ago, lucky for him there were other staff around who saved him from serious injury. He always suffered with a bad back afterwards & had to leave the motor trade. I  always use axle stands as well as a trolley jack on the rare occasions I venture under a car,I have a trolley jack in both migs as the jack supplied with them I really don't feel is up to the job to even change a wheel. It really must have been an awful way to die , for this poor man.
