Title: Trouble Over at Volvo Land...
Post by: Albert1 on 04 June 2008, 14:30:37
I've had half a mind to buy a Volvo S60 T5 lately, so strayed into the Volvo Owners forum (http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/) to see what owners think of them, only to find it's been shut and was greeted by this message:

"Following today's meeting the Board of Directors wishes to reiterate their full commitment to the forum and that they recognise the increasing importance of the forum to the Volvo Owners Club.

It is clear that the rapid growth of the forum over that last few years means a larger management team is required.

To that end Bob Isaac has decided to hand over its running to a new dedicated team of Volvo Owners Club members.

The Board of Directors also remain fully committed to allowing the entire Volvo Owners Club membership to "have their say" regarding the forum structure and operation. Details on how to "make your views known" and to be involved in this new approach will be communicated to all Volvo Owners Club members as soon as possible and this information is anticipated to be posted to all Volvo Owners Club member within the next two weeks.

Board of Directors
Volvo Owners Club
20th April 2008
"

Posts on other forums say that someone slagged off a Volvo dealership on the Volvo forum and the dealership owner is on the Board of Directors (wtf???) of the club and so had it shut down. Allegedly. Apparently. Allegedly-Apparently.  Apparently-Allegedly [can I stop now please, Mr Lawyer?]

Fun eh?  lol

Only the volvo owner's forum would have a board of directors!

I know there were issues a few months back with legal problems but the forum came back up after that, I'm sure.

Anyway, buy an Omega instead. :y

TO ALL IT MAY CONCERN:

I HEREBY NOMINATE MYSELF TO BE THE CHAIRPERSON OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE OMEGA OWNERS FORUM.  THIS NOMINATION TAKES EFFECT HEREWITH AND DOES NOT REQUIRE SECONDMENT.  YOU MAY ADDRESS ME AS MR CHAIRPERSON, OR ALTERNATIVELY AS MASTER-OF-ALL-I-SURVEY.  WHICHEVER YOU ARE MOST COMFORTABLE WITH.

Oh dear, how sad, some people need to get a life  :-/ what has the world come to.

But some of these forum's do take themselves way too seriously, I am happy to say that's not the case with OOF  8-) It's nice to have a bit of banter and have a laugh.

How come they get into so much trouble for slagging off a dealership, when another vauxhall forum I am a member on has a "Dob in a Dealer" board??  ::)

Because Dealer-owners are a right bunch of ego maniacs.  In my previous job (claims manager) I had to go see the owner of a chain of dealerships, who also happened to be "Chairman of the Dealership Council" for a certain Japanese manaufacturer, to tell him his bodyshop labour rates were too high.  He was a right pompous ass!

These dealership clowns should try and stop the rumours of bad service by actually providing a good service at a good price for happy customers! The number of times I have been stuck with "dealer only" jobs for my sister at FIAT, and I have never ever heard such a load of rubbish and such inflated prices - I never forget the day they told her a new battery for a Seicento Sporting was £90 (sourced in the end for £35 at the motor factors). She didn't/doesn't know any better!

As for Vauxhall Dealers, well there are two in Cardiff, and I would only ever go to one of them by choice. (Both parts departments are good though, just the rest of the service is abysmal).

I guess this could have got me banned over there  ;D

No doubt about that :) Was thoroughly disappointed in the work that went on there, but the guy actually in servicing was pretty good and the parts chaps are legends. You wouldn't get that from a Volvo/Alfa dealer.

the story with the Volvo forum was one that a lot of forums cold suffer from in the future.

It was an independent that got slagged off, however it would seem that it was not all true, this in turn escalated when the owner of the garage got into the forum and tried to put across their side of the story.

The long and the short of it was that the owner ended up getting legal advice as there was a case of slander to answer to here, the forum nearly got caught up in it as they had perpetuated it and not stepped in and locked the thread in a timely manner.

Ok on a forum like this we don't get these issues, and if we did they would be sorted in an adult like manner due to the people who run it and contribute to it, but not all forums were created equally  ;)
