Title: How many times can...
Post by: 05omegav6 on 16 January 2014, 10:55:11
... a car be written off?

Car got sprayed with gravel pouring from an unsecured tipper back in October... broken screen, chipped paint on O/S wing, bumper, both A pillars, roof and obviously bonnet. Had an estimate at the time couple of days to respray the bonnet/wing and to touch the rest in :-\ A pillars and roof have one chip each.

Rang insurers yesterday, is I'd had the screen done and basically forgotten about it :-[, as had they >:(

Anyhoo, third party have accepted full liability, so take the car to XYZ for an estimate. When I asked how long it would be needed for, I was quite taken aback when the bloke said "At least a week" :o

Front end to be stripped in order to paint wing, bumper and bonnet. Windscreen out and interior out to remove roof rails/aerials in order to repaint the whole roof :o Apparently it also needs laquering...

Waiting to see what the response to the estimate is :-\

IMO, if its third party at fault it should be repaired. Regardless.

If only ::)

Quite :-\

I thought the first estimate was ok for an insurance quote, but even at £450 ish that would be touch and go for writing off a 261k mile ten year old car... Let alone a weeks labour :-\

This could turn into an argument :-X

I agree entirely, but insurance companies deal in figures, not sentiment :(
