On the 17th December I got my first speeding ticket in 20 odd years. I was driving the works van on a single carriageway and was doing 60 mph when I got caught by a camera van parked on a bridge. This afternoon I got another ticket delivered to work, I was caught on the 2nd January on the same road again in the works van but this time it was a dual carriageway section and I was caught doing 72mph. What I can't understand is, I've done approximately 33,000 miles up and down the same road at the same speeds for the last 8 months, why haven't I had a ticket before ???

Sounds like they've cottoned onto you :P
Be lucky if you only get three points for the second one... 20% over the limit :('

Depends what the work van is???
Dual carriageway with a central reservation is 70mph......unless otherwise posted.....or your driving a twin wheel base...escort type van would be fine upto 70 mph, unless posted otherwise imo

Anything over 2ton gross...

...and commercial in nature, so would include pick ups and crew cab/vans :-\

My old transit would never do less than, errr, faster than that. That was before the cash machine partnerships though, so only had to answer to common sense coppers and static speed cameras.

Weight for vans, seats for minibuses, if a combination, then van rules apply :y

I can't understand how for 8 months I passed the same cameras and never got a ticket. I suppose it's about time I got the vaseline out and contribute to the north wales police 2014 Christmas party ::)

A few years ago, we all got a memo round on the building company I was working for. It said that even the Transit Connects could only do a maximum of 60mph on a duel carrigeway.

Vehicle and speed limits depend on whether there is a car version of the van as to which speed limit applies.
If there is a car version (Astra/escort/similar) then car limits apply.
If non car derived then van limits (transit/merc/ similar).
:)
Ps -unlucky Pete. I do much the same job as you and face the same dilemma when towing a trailer, plus the added potential fun and games of no tacho fitted.... ::)

You quote the road design ... single carriageway / dual carriageway ..... but .. are there "local" limits which will overide the national limits ?? A single carriageway is a max of 60 BUT could be 30/40/50 if locally signed ... same with dual .. national is 70 but locally could be 60/50/40/30 ???
If the rules are national rules .. it may be that the cameravans are only now linked to ANPR and actually "know" your weight/speed limits ... previously it was just a bloke with a camera pointed at A N Other transit .. ???
Just guesses .. nowt else .. :)

He obviously left a legacy :-\ might also go some way to explaining why the ambulance response times are so poor :-X
