Check out this rather unusual Signum on eBay - like or not?

We'll all be driving tractors soon, what with OPEC's determination to send the oil price to $300 a barrel.

With DERV 15p more per litre at the pump, i will be staying with petrol!
-
Nothing special is it? Just a modern, standard, box on wheels....how boring! :( ;)
-
Nowt to write home about ...:( another plastic box on wheels, no character at all IMHO ..:(

Which makes diesel about 10% more expensive than petrol, but gives about 50% more MPG. The sums are simple, everything else just a matter of personal preference.

Nope. ;D

Angry wasp noises for petrolheads, flat torque "curve" at low revs for dieselheads...each to their own.
Me, I'm still waiting for the lazy manufacturers to create my ideal engine: V8 petrol (speed, refinement) with variable cylinder-shutdown facility when I'm pootling about (anywhere between 2 and 5 cylinders would shut down), assisted by GM's forthcoming HCCI technology that relies on compression rather than spark-ignition up to 3000 RPM, and two Lithium Ion powered electric motors powering the wheels at town speeds, with the batteries partly charged by built-in solar panels in the roof.

Almost reminds me of an old episode of the Simpsons

wonder why hes selling a car he's praising so much??
dont really like it,may do if it was black :-/ :-/

You mean the rack-and-peanut-steering episode? lol

That was my first impression, but black Signums manage to look like hearses....

had a few bodies in the back of my cars ;) ;)

I've driven a Daimler hearse.

Kevin
185bhp and 295 lb/ft torque with a 0-60 time that will pretty much match a 3ltr Omega it might be worth a look for a 'performance' diesel if you want to stay with a Griffin.
I hate Diesels with a passion, but if i had to have one it would be one of those (but maybe in a different colour ;D)
-
Electronics aside, would be an interesting project to pop that engine into an Omega.
-
i love them fella my little brother has just bought a 54 plate 2.0 turbo well impressed with the spec !! will be my next car a chipped 3.0cdti 8-)

Either Top gear or 5th Gear were talking about such an engine, either Mercedes or BMW, wasn't taking much notice. :-[
-
I like it - I have an Omega Irmscher 3.2 Elite and a diesel Signum 57 plate and went for the 1.9 for 50+ mpg. You will be surprised at the spec and the performance of the diesel Signum.
-
I really do like its wheels though :y
-
I suspect a V8 would be as rough as a bear's @rse with 5 cylinders shut down. ;D
I guess most of the losses caused by the redundant cylinders would be there still too. They'd still be moving in the bores and pumping fresh air although presumably there'd be some more sophisticated valve control in the HCCI setup that could minimise this.
It would be great until it broke.

Inhabited or not? ::) ::)
I've ferried many deseased backward & forward to & from mortuaries & chapels of rest. :y

Doesn't the Chrysler Hemi 6.1 V8 do some thing similar. IIRC Cadillac were experimanting with the idea during the 70's fuel crissis, I don't know what their problems were though.
-
Not such a nice car; FWD and the colour doesn't look so great on it. Nice wheels though :y
(Oh, and 19" do not rattle your teeth)

I can't say I'm a fan of any of the recent snowflake alloys. To open for me, I like the facelift Omega Elite - more wheel than hole.

GM claim to have 1 million cars in the US with this technology:

It's been done before by Mercedes (S600 V12) and Cadillac - the only drawback was that the people with the money to buy those cars weren't interested in saving fuel, so not many were sold. Might be a different story nowadays though.

Does it actually have any so called boot/load space to speak of.?

365 litres - just enough for a dead body, as long as rigor mortis hasn't set in yet.

If this engine is the same as in the Vectra 3.0 Cdti V6, it's bloody awful.
Pis$ poor turbo range, no power after 4k revs, sluggish and takes an eternity to get to 60! Perhaps the most frustrating engine I've ever had the displeasure to drive in my life.
(Don't like it much) ;D
-
I prefer my Astra with the VXR kit. Much less boring!!
Although it doesn't pull like a VXR, it looks and drives very nice indeed. Rubbish pic though soz!
