Title: Engine weight
Post by: Martin_1962 on 17 January 2014, 21:19:23
After a cheap engine stand to store my 2.6 on and fix the oil leaks.

How heavy are they?

Thanks

Martin

Even the cheapy Machine Mart/Sealey ones will easily take an Omega engine.
However, they are a bit floppy, so if possible buy a four-leg one.

At a guess, I'd say about 150-170 kg. Depends if all the ancillaries are removed, of course. The block is surprisingly compact once it's bare.

I have one of the cheap machine mart ones and it's been fine with a Zetec (120kg) and also a Rover V8, which I would guess is probably at least as heavy as a GM V6.

I have used my 4 wheeled engine stand with a couple of Rover V8s and one Omega V6.

I'm convinced that the cast iron V6 must weigh at least twice as much as the aluminium Rover V8 (but searching the internet seems to reveal 144kg for the Rover V8 & 176kg for the X25XE V6)(both 'fully dressed')
