I've never understood this.
This is how I do it.
1......Take pizza from freezer and put it in the oven. If feeling particularly lazy your wife or girlfriend can be instructed to perform this arduous task. ;)
2......Twenty minutes later take it from the oven and enjoy..........Total cost about £2.
Alternatively.
1......Pick up the phone and order it.
2.....Twenty minutes later pizza arrives cold ...soggy and limp and is handed to you by a spotty teenage boy who has probably 'self abused' three times that day already, and neglected to wash his hands in between...........Total cost about £7.
Why would anyone do that?
-
Woo, you haven't had a Herbyz special with there garlic bread pasties with chease.
Have you ever added your own toppings to a Pizza? Or even made your own? Taste shite doesn't it. They're not quite complete from the supermarket. Bit thin on top, so to speak ;)
Having said that I had a goodfellas the other day, ate half like a good boy. Then ate the other half as well. Easily. I got told off for that. ;D
-
Why anyone eats the muckment I'll never know ??? Let alone pay for a bit of pastry covered in tomato sauce with bits of dubious meat, cheese, fruit and veg, urgh :(
-
Home frozen Pizza's are ok but for me have to be the slightly more expensive Italian Thin Stone Baked type, I always put some extra fresh toppings on top and a must is when its half cooked it to wack some Virgin Olive Oil on top and season to blend the flavours. :y

You can't beat a Dominoes. They're expensive though. Supermarket ones are just lame tasting imo.

You old skinflint ;) Even from a supermarket that is stupidly cheap, probably not much more than a bit of pizza base and a smear of tomato paste. I bet you even look for the BOGOF offers on them ! In principle I agree with your comments, but do yourself a favour, and buy better quality pizzas for the freezer :y

My favourite is Pizza Express Sloppy Giuseppe from the supermarket with a bit of extra cheddar chucked on! Yum!!! :y :y :y

I agree.....tho sometimes dominoes have them at 1/2 price, which brings them down to £8-£9
The only time i buy supermarket ones is when they have the 'truly irresistible' ones at 1/2 price, which makes them about £2.50, but then i still chuck on extra grated cheese and any other ingredients i can find......sliced up olives, go well :y
I usally buy a 39p 'value' garlic stick as well.......they are just as garlicy and tastey as the more expensive ones :y

My local pizza/burger/kebab shop its about £9 for 14" and some garlic bread. Point blank refuse to use Dominos who are opposite the independent.

If your local independent uses fresh dough then fair enough.....its the ones that use frozen pizza bases i dont like.....you may as well buy a frozen supermarket one and add extras....

They do roll it out, so always assumed fresh.
However, not a fan of thick crusted, so the base is of less importance IMHO. But better than the frozen supermarket pizzas available from Tesco.

Four breadmaker cups of wholemeal flour.
1.5 teaspoons of fast acting yeast.
3 tablespoons of sugar.
1 tablespoon of unsalted melted butter.
1.3 breadmaker cups of water.
Use the doe setting on your breadmaker which will take about 1.5 hours.
Use wholemeal flour to stop it sticking and roll out to make two 16" pizzas. I use the back of a circular steel bar tray for this which is perfect. Cover the pizzas bases with a cloth to allow them to rise a bit while you prepare the rest of the ingredients.
Put your pizza stone in the oven at set it to the highest setting on mine that is 240degC to pre-heat the stone and oven.
Take one tub of tomato passata and place in a bowl add basil, mixed herbs and crushed garlic to taste and heat in the microwave for 3 minutes. This makes enough tomato base for 6 pizzas.
Briefly cook chopped mushrooms in olive oil with crushed garlic and (optional) finely chopped chillies.
(Optional) finely chop a red onion. This adds a subtle onion flavour and slight crunch to the pizza which I like.
Prepare other toppings, I usually use three thinly slice large tomatoes per pizza.
Grate cheese, I usually use part of a 1kg block of mild cheddar.
Take the heated pizza base from the oven, add a pizza base, spread the tomato base thin and evenly over the pizza, add 1/2 the mushrooms, onion, tomato and grated cheese and cook in the oven for 13 minutes. Repeat with the second pizza or more if you have made more pizza bases.
To prepare the ingredients and cook the two pizzas takes about an hour. What you aren't going to use, leave to cool optionally quarter and wrap in cling film and place in your freezer. To reheat place the base uppermost and zap for 20 seconds and then turn over and zap the top for about 60 seconds.
Proper delicious homemade pizza at less than £1 each.
I'm sure your pastry chef will do a fine job M'lud.

+1 for that!
I usually buy the Farmfoods "3 for £3" "pepperoni"(supposedly) but I add ensona hot chilli sauce, BBQ sauce, extra mature cheddar, salami, pepperoni, chicken, bacon, mixed peppers, ham, onion, more cheese, and sometimes donner meat (which I buy, once a year from a local, reasonably high class wholesaler, as a whole lump - then slice, slow oven cook, and freeze).
-
Dominos is actually quite tasty... provided you collect it yourself ::) adding extra toppings is no biggie either :y
Certainly no shame in adding a bag of grated mozzarella and smoked bacon and an egg to a freezer bought meat feast though ::)

We have a whole different class of Yoof round here ;D put it this way, whenever we try and get Dominos delivered here it is usually free as by the time said yoof has failed to find the address and taken the pizza back to the shop, I have to go and fetch it, and it's barely luke warm ;D breakless retards ::)
Thec speeds they fly around town at, the pizzas should be burnt from re entry >:(

Yes, make sure you prepare all of the topping ingredients, before you put the pizza base on a baking tray and then add them as quickly as possible and get it into the oven. You will probably need a slightly longer cooking time without a pizza stone, so try 15 minutes. The biggest advantage of the pizza stone where it starts heating the base as you put the topping on is that you can end up with the top of the pizza base being a bit doey using a baking tray. One of my refinements was heating the pizza tomato base in the microwave for 3 minutes as it is hot and it thickens up the sauce to also help minimise this.
Let us know how you get on and any innovations that you find as I'm always keen to try new ideas and toppings.
Don't make the mistake I did when I first went to use the pizza stone of adding the topping to the base and then trying to add the lot to the sone and ended up with a pile of pizza and topping in the middle of the stone. :-[
If you find that making regular pizzas is for you, the stones are quite cheap:

I made my own paddle for transferring the pizza to a plate once cooked using a piece of surplus white faced hardboard with a beveled front edge and a piece of wood screwed on at an angle as a handle.
