Title: 2.5 petrol (facelift) oil leaks.
Post by: Bigrichpal on 23 January 2014, 08:13:34
Hello everyone!

I have had my Miggy for a year now and apart from the obligatory change of one cam cover gasket (the other was done by the previous owner) all has been well. However it was still a nervous time waiting for the car to come down off the ramps at the MOT station yesterday, but glad to say that she flew through with only a couple of minor advisories. New tyres will be needed on the back soon, and a couple of (very slight) oil leaks.

One is from the front of the engine, low down, the other is from the rear of the diff. Can anyone advise as to how easy it is to rectify these leaks? If it helps, since the cam cover gasket was replaced the car has done almost 5000 miles and the engine oil levels are still up on the dipstick and has not had to be topped up. As for the diff, I have no idea how to check the oil level so this is more of a concern for me.

Like the rest of you think, my Miggy is worth a fortune to me, but to everyone else about 2p. So while I want it right, if the repairs would be expensive has anyone had any experience of those oil additives that are supposed to revive leaky seals? I have heard some opinions and most seem to be a bit negative.

My thanks to you all for reading this, and for any help or advice that can be shared. Oh, and a belated Happy New Year!
