Is there anything i could put under the bonnet to frighten them off ?
Checking the fluids, I Noticed they chewed some of the padding on the passenger side back of the engine >:( Nothing too serious YET luckily, But they might come back and find something more then padding to chew :-\.

I wouldn't spray anything that contained those ingredients in my engine bay. Not saying it would do any harm but it just might.

I have some CATS do you want them they are always jumping all over my car while it's in the garage!!! They are free if you want them lol
p.s They love garages, freshly cleaned cars and walking in oil puddles followed by your clean car
-
did i mention they are FREE lol
-
Thanks for the offer cd 2.2 , Think I'll pass on this occasion ::) ;D
Now then, Think I'll move away from Deterrent and look to Terminate them :y
Put say x5 traps under the car and one under the engine maybe or that might encourage them more. Looks like the job of a mouse rather than a rat to me but not certain.
-
Run a pipe from the exhaust under the car and up into the engine bay, leave the bonnet down and leave running for half an hour or so! ;)
That should gas the little bastids out!! :)

Nice idea, Didn't think of that :y.. But Surely they aren't in the engine while driving and only go there at night and scamper off when the engine is fired up ???
(I say THEY but there could well be only one)

Yes you're probably right. They like it as it's nice, warm and cosy! :) Maybe they're building a nest with the foam in the scuttle drain... :-\
Second thoughts forget the exhaust pipe idea, the neighbours might spot it and dial 999!! ;D ;D ;D

Sure its not squirrels?
Pretty sure, Never seen any around here, No even grey ones, Seen plenty of rats mind. I'll take a picture of the damage this week.

From previous videos, I'm sure you live in a nicer area than that posts suggests. ;)

Pretty much the middle of nowhere in the countryside, Could be field mice, All the fields are completely soaked, Sounds better than rats anyway. :-X

They've attacked the Omega again >:(
Traps ain't working, Going to have to park it at a friends house till I catch it.
All this trouble because of a rodent ::)
-
Are you sure that he or her is not residing in the car somewhere a nice warm home and wont mind the move to another drivewayl
-
Put traps back and use a small smear of peanut butter as bait on the trap.
has never failed at parents house, and don't listen to townies who say owt different, eg chesse(its not tom n jerry) or that word humane trap.
-
We got ourselves one o' these maniacs:
No problems with rodents ... or cats ... 'round these parts 8)
-
Will be putting traps all over the place, Maybe try one of thoes glue traps in the engine bay with one grain of rat poison on it ? or maybe without poison not want it dropping dead somewhere awkward :o
Someone told me this stuff is a good Deterrent. Any truth in this I wonder :-\
PEPPERMINT, ESSENTIAL OIL Mentha piperita 100ml by EOD - Essential Oils Direct http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B002RJF6YW/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_k.88sb0Y9ZK7R

There are no signs of rodent activity inside the car, So far anyway.
-
I'll try and take a picture now.
-
Not very clear, But you can see the damage.
Some fresh damage today on the left foam part, There was only one mark there yesterday.

Whatever next, I'd much rather have a problem with the car than this.
-
This reminds me of that post where a guy pulled out a full dead rat from his engine bay.... a bit chargrilled though! :o
-
That foam disintegrates when it gets wet, best bet is to pull it of in its entirety...
If that's the only evidence I'm not sure about rodents being responsible tbh :-\
-
Have you checked the big scuttle drain box to the left , he mite be living in there :-\
-
Get it fumigated :y if there is anything there you'll find it soon enough once it's dead :y
Works a treat on aircraft, can't see a car being any different...

I've cleaned the mess they made along with their droppings.
That foam pad was in perfect condition before these little ba*t*rds wreaked it.

Nothing in there :-\

Nothing stopping them coming back after though, As soon as the bonnet is open or hear any noise they are well gone probably.
-
Be making a nest somewhere... get it gassed :y
-
If I were a mouse, and had bothered to clamber to the top of a hot engine simply to nibble some foam, the I doubt I cba to carry it very far :-\
Could feed a pipe from another car, and tuck it down the back of the bonnet. Leave it running for three or four hours and see what happens. Once done ventilate the car thoroughly before using again, ie all doors, sunroof, boot lid and bonnet open for a good few hours so as not to gas yourself later :y
Could use that last waiting time to strip the scuttle and check every nook and cranny within the engine bay for the nest :y
-
Thanks everyone :)
I Wonder if mice like going over 100mph on a private runway ::)
Was thinking about putting one or two of these bait boxes in the engine with rat poison inside.
.. I'll need to think hard about what to do next. Talk about making work.
One things for sure i'm not going to let this little critter nibble away the whole car, God help him if i catch him with my bare hands. :-X ;D

Some good news I caught one, Parked the GLS where the Elite was parked and getting nibbled at, left the Elite at a friends house, Been a bit awkward like but it has paid off..
Around 23:45 9/2/2014 I looked under the engine and noticed the snap trap had been set off and a nice surprise attached to the end of it (not the chocolate button) a brown mouse :y
Hopefully there was only one, Going by the damage it's possible there was only one, But will keep setting traps for a week..
My trap set up is like this, x4 snap traps under the car, x2 bait boxes in engine, x1 glue trap on top of the 4 pot engine.
-
Another caught today, Had a look this morning and yet another snap trap had caught a mouse :y
-

I once serviced a 206 (IIRC), the owner complained of a thunking sound that only started on the way up the road into the garage... removed a squished rabbit from around the driveshaft and wedged into the chassis. Messy job. :D
-

At last your getting them :y Im going to rip all my foam off and sell as rat bait and make a killing ;D :D
-
Another caught today, it's like one a day :o :D ;D
-
If you catch enough you can have a fur lined engine bay lmao ;D
-
Another again.. That's 4 or 5 now. Can't be many left, If so they must realise they are missing a few comrades, Still they come back for more ::)
...…… I'm looking for a temporary fix to the damage to the foam padding, Would this stuff suffice http://bit.ly/1mflsyx to summer till I can get my hands on a replacement to swap. ?
-
Remove the foam completely ::) they can't eat what isn't there and it might help prevent water from getting to the coil pack wiring :y
-

But won't the water go straight through to the engine without it ?
What's The purpose of the foam then.
-
Soundproofing mostly, and as the cynical might suggest, to trap water in such a way that it drips onto the coilpack(s) in the optimistic view that you will buy a shiny new car rather than fix the old one ::)

Ah sound, So there's no need to replace it after removing it then.
-
None at all :y
-
case in point .... while I was busy repairing the engine in my mig I found after leaning on the sound proofing foam, it was full of water .... I dried it all out and she sat in my dry garage for 3 weeks, But wait! Oh no, It's soaked again ??? where the hell did that come from?? lol you will likely find that there is a water stain on the back of the engine if this has happened too like mine had >:(

The joint in the scuttle. Seal it up with silicon. :)
-
Soak the foam in bleach , that will put the blighters off :D
