Title: ABS-ECU Refurb ?
Post by: Mart280 on 04 February 2014, 12:43:38
Anyone know the best/cheapest place to get my ABS-ECU refurbed ? I've had the front wheels off and the wheel speed sensors and wiring dont appear to be damaged in anyway, so I dont think the problem lies there, at first it was intermittent the TC and ABS would come on for awhile and then go off for awhile but for the last 3 months or so they have been on permantley, also is it a hard job to remove the ABS-ECU ?

Easiest to get a known good one of a breaker, same engine, year'ish, etc.

There a bit if a pain to get off tbh, on your first time, but gets easier when you suss out how its all held in there.  :y

Thanks Zirk, I just started looking at this guide http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90627.0 and it says check the sensor on the near side rear as this is where the speed is from, for some reason I thought it was the near side front, should I check the rear ?

Just to add I bought a cheap hub with a sensor on it but cant shift the sensor to get it off, I removed the Allen bolt but the actual plastic sensor doesent want to move

Sensors can rarely be removed from the hubs without being broken, but they also very rarely fail.

If the speedo doesn't work, and ABS and TC lights are on, and you can't read any codes from the ECU, 99% probability it's the ECU.

Speedo signal comes from an average of all the wheel sensor speeds. No single wheel sensor failure will kill the speedo.

Thanks Kevin, saved me a bit of messing about, my MOT has just run out and I think I'm right in saying any warning lights on all the time is an automatic failure now, I think I will put it in for it's MOT and if it 's not going to cost me too much aside from the ABS ECU I will get it refurbed.

Yep, ECUs fail regularly enough that refurb is a better option than a 2nd hand ECU, IMHO. :y

Cough, if theres no ABS bulb, its an advisory, or was 6 months back, un Cough, ABS light on all the time is a Fail.  ;)

BBA reman have recently put their prices up and now want £200 for doing an Omega ABS ecu which is too much, you are better off using ECU Testing ltd - they still charge £100 plus £30 collect and deliver

That dodge only works on the SRS system,ABS if fitted has to work unless the tester is blind ::)
