Had to pop in a new screen for the MOT, I have insurance cover, so went through them. Ended up with Autoglass being assigned to do it. That was hard work to arrange, but thats just because their call centre are just a bunch of useless, thick retards. But thats another story.
Because they can't guarantee a van with some kind of cover onboard so they can work in the wet, nor could they actually provide a sensible date in which to visit to replace the screen (and then not necessarily being able to do it if it was raining, due to no portable shelters, and this couldn't be requested at time of booking) I agreed to take it to my nearest branch, 25 miles away (but fortunately not too far from work :)).
I can't really fault the workmanship, although one wiper needs adjusting a bit. But when they called to say it was ready, they said the wipers were really worn, and needed replacing, and they could do it for £17 for whatever tat they had (ECP are next door to them ::)). I asked if they were able to show me when I arrived to pick it up, and if I'd make the decision then...
Now, OOFers may recall I broke a wiper on this car about 3 weeks ago (actually, I broke one on each car within days of each other), so replaced them. Luckily, as I'd bought the wipers from Halfords at work, the receipt was still on my desk (nice clear desk policy :P).
So, in I trot, let them give their BS about the wipers before presenting the receipt, dated 21 Jan 14, for the wipers, in their full waiting room. They got quite shirty ;D

That's a very good feeling, nothing better than catching out the 'pro's' in a lie :y :y :y :y
-
Not really a lie, just more of an indication of how pressured they are to upsell....
-
What I really dislike about this upsell mentality is that they are quite happy to stitch you up for parts that are not needed so that they can get their bonus >:(
-
Yep, everyone doing insurance work gets screwed to the bone, so probably no money in it for them unless they use it as an opportunity to extort more money from you. >:(
-
Actually.. This reminds me that I've got a crack in my screen that needs repairing.. Been there for a couple of years. ::)
-
Where they giving away Bosch aero blade twins with each screen at one point?
Obviously not anymore. :(
It is worth fitting new wipers to a new screen though. Ones without springs give the screen an easier time. Ime. ....with Rain X. :)

Strange though how we get different experiences from the same company. :-\
I was very impressed when I changed a windscreen recently with Autoglass via my insurance. They came out the next day, bang on time and the chap had swapped it in about an hour and was on his way. No fuss, no mess and no aggro! :y
As to your windscreen wipers did I mention that Eurocarparts had a ........ ::) ;D

Just remember not to go over any pot holes etc
That very nice in that television advert says that your screen could crack at any time ;D ;D

I'll be impressed if they last longer than 4 weeks!! ;D
However bad and annoying they get, it'll be an improvement on the old set! ;)

So when does spending a fiver become a complete waist of money? As opposed to "saving money" ::)
Guessing in about a fortnight. ;D
-
Mr Opti seems quite happy with his set. ;)
-
Well in the time I quoted I covered 2500 miles and yes they have been used quite a bit.....but there still rubbish.
Back to the Bosch ones for me :y
-
Last pair of bosch aero twins lasted two years.
Seriously though Tigger. Rain x helps.
-
Always been a bit of a Marmite thing, though, Rain-ex. :-\
-
Bosch here, worth the little bit (with trade card) extra over Halfrauds crappy ones :y

Had it on for a month and a half. Wet, very wet, torrential. Dry... Not had dry with damp patches yet. The type that uses all your screen wash.
Front screen, can't see a downside so far tbh. At motorway speeds the wipers are completely unnecessary, as the water just blows up the screens in small beeds. Although I still use them of course.
Side windows, not so good. Rain balls up and can totally obscure the view in bright sunlight or oncoming lights at low speeds, like in car parks or slow manouvering before you get going.
Have you had problems?

Ime, the same effect can be achieved by meticulous and thorough cleaning. Very very thorough. But that only last a couple of days at most. Rain x lasts weeks, and takes seconds to apply.

Traditional Bosch on the Bullet for performance, aeros on TBE due to those over zealous rain sensing wipers :)

The call centre 'tard actually said that I should be grateful they could do it within 2 weeks :-\

Tried it ages ago, but had a problem after a few days (and having to use the wipers a bit), and effect no dissimilar to after an automated car wash with too much wax applied. Was OK initially, but the more I used the wipers, the worse it got.
Had to use a lot of elbow grease and a scourer to get it off.
Not tried since.

You have reminded me that I went through a car wash yesterday, and it deposited wax all over the windscreen, so I'll nip out to the garage and clean that off. IIRC rain-ex is fine until it starts to deteriorate, then you'd better have a bottle in the car or you'll be cursing. I may have a bottle somewhere. perhaps I'll give it another go.

That's my experience of it. I have some, not used it for a while, but will use it again.
-
Its on its second application.
Re wax on the windscreen from car wash, yes it makes life very difficult. The wipers skip off the screen then drag the water back from the side. Where the wipers cross over in your eye line the water just seems to gather and never clear.
I cleaned my screen thoroughly with that green mr muscle window cleaner 2 or 3 times, then Rain x polished off. Worked well. Kept frost to a minimum one night too.
Second application, sprayed on, quick wipe, left it. Could see the wipe marks on the screen in the morning where the rain had settled on it. But seemed to work just as well otherwise.
I guess be thorough. :)
Not sure side windows is a good idea. :-\

Rain-x is fantastic on the Westfield where the wipers are about as much use as an ashtray on a - well, a Westfield. ;D

I Tried Raix-X ages ago It's OK, But for the past 7 months I have been using something called "Gtechniq G1 Clear Vision Rain Repellant" Which i applied Once (3x coats at the time) July 2013 and is still working well, Not as good as it was first applied but still cruising above 50mph you don't really need the wipers especially at night with no street lights.
Plus it definitely helps the water off with ease when using the wipers, Also when we had a little frost awhile back only the roof froze.
Personally i wouldn't recommend Rain-X when these's something better available. Just my opinion mind. :)

Yes I remember you posted a link. :y
Might try it once the Rain x runs out, having sampled the benefits of such products. :)

Be sure to clean all the glass you want to apply it to with some IPA beforehand :y
-
I had 2 car screens replaced on insurance in 2012 and was really impressed by the service of Autoglass including the providing proper new screen surround and the next day a new lower rubber seal as the old one was perished.Would recommend over other companies but cant comment on any upselling as was done at home.

There`s no way I`m cleaning my screen with beer...a total waste IMHO ;D
I use rain-x on the miggy and my works van, brilliant on dual carriageways and motorways especially when passing hgv`s. Didn`t see much improvement around town though.
