With the 100th anniversary of the First World War or The Great War this year there are a few decent documentaries on TV at the moment. :)
The best I've seen so far is Doomsday: World War One on Quest. It has lots of colour footage taken by the Germans and seems to be a pretty straight forward factual account. Worth a watch if you like that sort of thing! :y
The BBC did a good one about Europe's royal families at the time, Royal Cousins at War and how our King George V, Germany's Kaiser Wilhelm II and Russia's Czar Nicholas II were all first cousins and grandsons of Queen Victoria. Not that it helped at all..... :( Fascinating docu though! :y
The other one by the BBC, Britain's Great War is also good if a little 'hand wringy' :-\
Watching this sort of stuff make you realise how lucky we are to live in relatively peaceful times! :y

Yes, great pieces of film on The War To End All Wars, that in fact caused a second even bigger one! :'( :'( :'(

Just wanted to post some of the wife's memorabilia from the first world war. We are so very proud of her Grandad who won the George Medal. We have literally hundreds of his postcards sent to his dear wife.... R.I.P. Wally.

I'm always very grateful for the fact that I am probably one of the first generations for a long time to never have had to personally face a major war. Very grateful, and I hope this continues for future generations.
