I thought I would get Mrs V some new speakers for her PC. You would think it would be simple!
I have decided on 2.1 speakers without wires. So two speakers, a big sub woofer and no wires. Women don't like wires and loads of clutter.
Found Creative T3150W 2.1 Bluetooth Wireless Speaker System and I can get that from a computer shop here for around £50.
However they are described as Bluetooth. We haven't anything Blue tooth in the house. Worse I have to admit I have never seen a Bluetooth anything. Do I have to buy a PCI card for her desktop? Or doI just get a USB bluetooth device.
If I have it all wrong I would appreciate suggestions for something wireless! Ah the joys of not being at any edge of technology.
PS I now have a vague feeling these aren't without wires............

They are going to need wires to power them if you don't want to be endlessly replacing batteries anyway, so you have a choice of wires to power the speakers or wires to connect them to each other, and, ultimately, to the PC. That's my take on it, any way. ;)
-
And as the speakers will be either side of the screen and the sub close by.....e.g. in an area full of 'wires', is there realy a benefit in wireless?
-
I bought some wired ones out of santa money a few weeks back . Logitech , they have a central boom box and 2 small separate tweeters . Tried them out in the shop and compared to other stuff they were the best for the money .. £23 from curry's i think .

Not worth going wireless for speakers.
If you do, there may be a BT dongle included, but I doubt it. Cheap BT dongles are a bit naff, often with huge buggy drivers and limited capability,
So wires ;)

Another vote for wired here :y
Creative are/were good speakers, still use a 5.1 & 7.1 set up here :y

Aye, got and old Cambridge Soundworks (Creative) 5.1 set here for when I need to educate some Nazis, or play my air guitar

OK I am convinced . I will buy some wired 2.1's,plenty of them to choose from!!
We already have a rechargeable battery(By USB) single speaker and USB. That works quite well up to about fifty feet or more outside - great for working on the car.
While I am on a roll, is there any value in buying a sound card ,not to improve the sound , but to free up a bit of computer processor power by removing the onboard sound. Would the benefit be miniscule and not worth the effort/cost for low tech use?

All depends on your system resources really.
If you have an old 486 then it would definitely benefit from something like the old SoundBlaster Live, but the normal onboard Realtek crap found on most motherboards tends to suffice for the average user these days.
AS far as speakers go, Logitech is my personal number one choice as they give a 5 year warranty (on their high end products).

Dual core 3Ghz HP , so fairly basic.

And old ;D.
No gains (performancewise) in adding a sound card on that.
-
Aye the onboard sound should be sufficient Realtek HD probably
After all you are probably going to play mp3 files through it, so it will be grand ;D
Still have a few friends who buy super expensive sound equipment for the true sound quality and then play compressed music through it ;D ;D ;D

Cheeky beggar, only bought it last year to replace the other one -P4 .
Third world country don't you know ;D ;D

Do a proper job that will, no need for all that fancy new gear ;D ;D
