Title: estate rear wiper blade
Post by: wightyboy2 on 11 February 2014, 19:17:55
Hi apologies in advance for this lame question I have got an old omega estate M reg , the rear window has got quite a curved shape and for the life of me I cant get the wipe to wipe the full curve of the glass I have tried bending the arm around  a bit but still cant get it too wipe the length of the blade ? :( I know this might sound a daft question too a lot of you that can probably build a whole omega nut and bolt but it sure frustrating the bits off me lol  ::) has any one got an idea how to solve this little problem , cheers  :y

You're not alone, so don't worry. I think many estate owners have got around it with particular wiper brands and a slight bend on arm, but even then, full contact seems problematic at the top of the window.

I'll wait for an estate owner to comment :)

Thanks for that was feeling a bit embarrassed at the trivial nature of the question in view of some of the really in depth stuff that goes on , on here cheers. :y

Mine is much the same..

I remember reading that genuine Vx blades were better than others, but to be careful you didn't get given the 'new variant' blade that was actually a Corsa rear wiper blade? Something along those lines..

My rear wiper suffers the same problem. I have tried a few different brands but without any real improvement.
I'm now living with it & just don't look in the rear view mirror!  :D

I use one of the aero type blades on mine, the springy/bendy-ness of them seems to cover quite well.

GM one should be the best solution, but never tried one

Always misses the bit by the brake light though

Had the same problem with our estate, don't know if you have a Wilkinsons where you are,  bought one from them & it's perfect..

Buy a new arm, not just a new blade. The spring in the arm makes all the difference.

It did to me anyways..... :y

Agreed, had 4 estates, all made the 'batman' logo until a new arm from VX was fitted.

Have yet to try an aero blade on mine, but longer blades actually seem to be more effective at following the curves :y

Still miss the brakelight though ;D

Took me some time to realise that the only wiper to use on the estate's is a genuine GM one, have tried lots, branded and cheapoo, GM is the only one ive found that is good enough. But a full set of GM blades on TC is peanuts anyway, and they work well, and don't seem to lift off at 70mph(officer) ;)

I can agree this, have tried several blades of various brands until I realized that the original part is really special, it is curved from factory to fit the glass. Unluckily they have (at least here) replaced this original blade with some Corsa blade which is NOT the same even though the lenght matches.

As the blade body seems to hold together better than the blade I have renewed only the rubber blade to existing body with good results.
