The Jeep needs some work, replace or repair is the question...... :-\ :-\ :-\ so thought I would look around for a cheap and cheerful car so I could put the Jeep off the road, whilst I like an Auto, not that much choice locally, at sub £1k so searching manual found this, not my style at all; but rather like it.... :-[ :-[

Know nothing at all about them, but could be good fun as a stop gap :y
-
Not sure about the turn, but definitely on summat ::)
-
They are gay. ;D ;D ;D
Seriously they suffer from head problems around that milage like all the rover 1.8 cars :y
-
you could do alot worse than a saxo VTR/s. They are fun to drive and can be tuned easily, parts are really easy to get and on the most part really cheap! owned a furio 1.4 a couple of years ago that had the vts gearbox and bottom end and the vtr big valve (black top) head. For an 8 valve 1.6 it was extremely fast .. 125bhp at the wheels and 135mph flat out (on the sat nav not the speedo lol)! Sadly it was lowered too far by the previous owner and was defeated by a pothole :'( and now I have the mig in bits in my garage lol
Bargain basement fun with lots of problems to fix as it's french, What could possibly go wrong

My sister in law had on of them. Tbh it spent more time on the drive way in bits than on the road :)
Nice looking little cars (for hair dressers called tarquin ;D ;D ;D ;D)
But it's your choice at end of the day if your heart says go for it listen to your brain :)
-
If you really need a convertible in winter then you might as well get an MX-5
Best time to buy a convertible is definitely in the winter, not due to price but needing enough time to fix it up so it is ready for the great British summer (Expected around 2054) ;D ;D ;D

Come on people, what could possibly be wrong with an 18 year old MGF?
I prescribe a fresh dose of meds and hourly observations for Mr Vamps.
Is the legendary Jeep reliability finaly catching up?

If it still drives at that age then I think it might have a chance of lasting until March ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
You would be a lot better off with an MX-5 imo... There's a reason they're so cheap
-
Old Merc would be my choice, I am biased mind you... have a look on RetroRides :y
At that age of MGF I'd be amazed if it drove with any accuracy... but I'd still be interested to have a go...

My sister-in-law has just got rid of hers after constantly spending out on over-heating and head problems. It was in good condition but they just couldn't cure it, even an engine swap had the same problems. :-\
-

+1,biggest problem is the hydragas suspension units, they cost a fortune,as said engines can have issues too although reasonably cheap to fix :y
-
Just looked closer - my mate bought a car from that dealer, he's a proper petrolhead and absolutely trustworthy. It was a Z4 3.0si with over 100k on the clock, it was absolutely as described, no bull, no pushiness, so this MG could well be worth a look. PM me if you want any more info :y
-
I had my daughter's MGF here for a couple of years. I didn't like it at all, very, very basic, and I like autos. Make sure the coolant pipes from front to back underneath have been replaced for stainless ones. A known issue with these. :y
-
I've just finished screwing together a 3.0 Elite manual facelift which you could have for a lot less than that !
-
Poof! :D ;D
-
Poof! :D ;D
Agreed. ;D ;D
Check the boot for scissors, hair extensions, and setting lotion, Mr Vamps.
A british Mazda MX5 and therefore a 'hairdressers car'
Buy it if you must but then give it to Miss Vamps....It's certainly girlie enough. ::) ::) ::) ;)

A couple more than I should have had on a school night......... ;) ::) :-[

Nope.............. :y :y There was an occasional problem that put the gearbox in limp mode and the eml light on, that I think I over thought, must have had my Omega head on and assumed the worst.......... :D :D
All sorted by an Independent Mercedes Garage, on Preston Farm, Stockton while I waited, excellent service, though was a simple fix......... :y :y
-
Yes , head gasket problems ... also the rad design was far too small for the engine size :( There is a garage near me doing very well at just repairing MG's with blown heads ::) My mate had his repaired 3 times at great cost and eventually gave up on it , i told him not to buy it >:(

My mother in law has an MGF, in fact she's selling it as she has 2 cars, anywhoo she's had it 3or4 years and never had any bother with it. Never driven it myself but looks a nice wee motor.
