Title: Finally a Costco Member
Post by: tunnie on 12 February 2014, 21:10:05
Now a Costco member, previously it was a big journey to visit one. But now have one around 5 miles away :)

Been wondering if it was worth the £30 membership fee, but on our first trip wondering around today we spotted, well MrsT spotted a Tefal 8 in 1 Cooker thing, slow cooker to rice cook and all kinds.

Cheapest I've seen it is around £60, but Costco, with offer, £37. :D

Bought a lot of other things too, think easily recovered the membership fee in one visit. Looking at what else they had, defo be back there many times :)

If you're near one, its a no brainer.

The meats (from their own butcher section) are usually very good quality as well.

Kimchi noodles are a winner Tunnie, very spicy and come in packs of 12

Yeah their fish looked good too, frozen stuff looked good too. Bacon for some reason was mega cheap?

MrsT spotted a few things which were close to half the price she has been paying, also, week days it's so empty in there!

As a bonus, as it's right next to Farnborough airport you get that kerosene smell in the car park :D

Will give them a go :)

I've had a craving for gyoza, saw some frozen ones for the first time, won't be as good as Japan but planning to try those too

The catering pack is, errr, catering quality. I tend to buy the packaged ones they do, 6 (or 8) "packs" in a bundle

£30? thought it was £30...?

I think macro is cheaper, but shambolic, on occasions.

Thats the only reason I pay the membership - only meat from a good butchers is as good quality but much more money

Their buffet platters are to die for
Freezer section is always a place to stop at, we always get the packs of salmon & chicken breasts (juicy  :y) and the big packs of bacon (split & frozen)
Cooked chickens are good
Their Celebration Cakes (special order) are great value
+ + + + + + more .....

The only trouble with Costco is that it's impossible to go in for just a few items ....... it always seems to be £300/£400 when we go  :(

Nope :)

Sky was on the 'list' of companies, showed them a payslip and gas bill. Job done, cards issued there and then.

I could join cause of wifey's job, but would have to travel to Leeds to shop. That's not too far but I could see my lazy arse not wanting to go after the novelty had worn off.

My problem with it is its either the wrong side of Milton Keynes, or Coventry. Neither convenient, so tend to only go every few weeks. Which means storing the larger quantities we end up buying.

I know the feeling that's why I upgraded to executive and get 2% cash back at the end of march which pays for the next year :y

The membership criteria seems rather odd. Because I'm a Magistrate, I can join...but I never knew we had a reputation as the typical bulk buyers  ;D
I'd be interested to see what prices they do 225 55 16 Michelins for!

Not especially cheap as far as I recall when I enquired a few years ago.  I think they do different prices for different types of members. Taxi's for example....  :-\

Maybe if you are wearing your motor traders hat rather than your JP's wig, you might get a better price!  ;)  ;D

It is worth taking a phone in to Google prices, most of their stuff is cheaper. Some us vastly cheaper, but not everything :)

Had their Aberdeen Angus meatballs last weekend - absolutely gorgeous (in a home made Marinara sauce).. Bacon isn't bad (the multipack packs, as TB says). Actually everything has been good from there..

Hot pizza to take home is great, too. Nom.

Oh and their ready-meals (the ones they make on site) all seem to be great; I tried the stew & dumplings the other day and it was very nice indeed.

Thank you Sir T  :y

With my Arthur Daley hat on, my local tyre place is excellent, and always does me a good deal...except on 225 55 16's  ;D They always tell me they're not a popular size!
Or course with my JP hat on, I'll go in and seize them as evidence  ::)
