Engineers win, obviously.

Where as by comparison, as Clarkson said something along the lines of " why are we looking at Cameron wearing a hard hat and a high vis in the rain (in front of a fire station iirc) and Milibelend standing in a puddle? "
Why, indeed, where we hearing a load of words on the tv, just words, instead of what the govt intends to do/is DOING to help the problem. And not just the floods, but any problem.
Noise achieves nothing, go DO something. Finally, some useful input. ::)

The royals have shown the way with William and Harry, filling Sandbags. :y I don't think CaMoron, Millipede or Thick Clegg would have a clue on how to fill a sandbag, not the sort of thing taught at a public school and they don't have a day's practical work experience between them. :( :( :(
All they can do is stand around in wellies, being a nuisance, having photographs taken of themselves and spouting platitudes to the flooding victims for party political purposes. The fact that Labour appointed the clueless politicians rather than practical engineers in charge of the Environmental Agency and the ConDems endorsed their policies of nature before people which stopped the dredging of the Somerset Levels and the known flood risk pinch points on the River Thames and their tributaries, I hope won't be lost on the electorate come the general election in 2015. The situation and number of flooded buildings is due to all three parties failing in their duties.
The EA budget has been going up but it has spent more on warning systems and less on vital frontline services including dredging which would mean that far fewer warnings would be required if they did their job much better.

If you don't like what's happening then perhaps you should stand for public office and show them how it should be done 8)

I reckon we should hand over the Somerset Levels to the Dutch. Let them also manage other flood plains/areas, as they have the experience few others have! ::) ::) :D :D ;)

50% of any profits resulting from increased productivty plus all the cost of whatever they need to do, and I think you would have a deal ::)

No. They'd eat all our cheese and smoke all of our dope.

Contrary to popular belief, politicians are not gods. Standing around in puddles is about all that can immediately be done.
Just watched a programme on Pick about the flooding and storms. It was mostly clips from Sky news. They showed an interview with a chap I know in Horsham who had a tree in his garden fall across a road and through a power line just before Christmas. His primary complaint was that it had taken 6 days to make the tree safe and replace the pole supporting the power line.
With the devastation being so wide spread why is it unreasonable that it takes time to get people and materials in place in order to deal with problems as they arise :-\

It's not unreasonable at all, as long as they do mine mine mine first.

An insignificant flea on a steaming pile of dog poo, unless you were born there... in which case it's not merely the centre of the universe. It is the universe ;D
For those not in the know, before the railway it was a small village about a mile from Horsham town centre. It is now, and has been for the last 150 years, very much part of Horsham in a physical sense, although not really in a social sense...
Which is very odd :-\

He also had a bistro/ cafe in town, but I can't remember the name of it.
-
Let me guess... he sold the town centre to Sun Alliance, and escaped north with his ill gotten gains and his family in the late 80's/ early 90's :-\
Which is where you come into this delightful family tale... ;D
