Last year we "bought" a lawn for our little un to play on. Looked fantastic last summer and it grew like nobody's business. However it is now looking very sparse in certain areas so what's the best thing to do so that come the warmer weather my wee one can get out and play?
Is there a certain type of grass seed anyone would recommend ?
If so when do I sow it?
And for that matter "how" do I sow it? Do I just scatter it all over the place or is there more to it?
At tips or advice would be most welcome :y

Does it get hammered - used in all weathers for swings, slides etc?

Last time i made a lawn, i used fast growing seed......scattered it about and covered with fine top soil....you can buy this in bags...just a light covering will do....otherwise if you dont cover the seed the birds will love it! Too early to do now imo....wait until about May.....then make sure you water well if were not getting any rain....in about 2 weeks you should get grass appearing :y

Would that be uphill gardeners? We've already had tg's arse twitching!

Nope. No ones been on it since oct/nov. just seems to be dying in quite large patches

Do you have a dog?

Yes we do have a dog, but he is never on the grass as its fenced and gated off. The grass is only for baba to play on so he never gets near it

when you "bought" it did you spend much time on the sub soil - what have you laid it on?

When we bought the house the back garden was grass, we then lifted that to put chips down for the dog and this time last year we got rid of the chips to have grass again for the baby.
After removing the chips then ground was rotovated and then we put down a layer of compost and on top of that a layer of topsoil.
Bought the turf and rolled it, left it for nearly 3weeks spraying water on it when needed and it took really well. All last summer we had no problem with it at all, nice even covering and it grew REALLY well.
Just since November time I would say that the sparseness has appeared. As already said its fenced off with no one walking on it.
