Hi
I have an 02 elite estate which i want to replace the stereo for a new 'all walking talking one' but i dont want to loose the steering wheel
features or the information on the display. is there a kit available to keep both whatever stereo i choose to put in it?

Your Elite will be Bose equipped so you`ll have to rip all the speakers out
-
You can get an auto leads adapter and a patch lead THIS (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAUXHALL-Omega-1994-2000-Steering-Control-Adaptor-PC99-X06-with-FREE-Patch-Lead-/350827023827?pt=UK_Cars_Parts_Vehicles_Terminals_Cabling_ET&hash=item51aeeb8dd3) is the one I got.

Still need the speakers changed though
-
Yup as Rob says, the whole lot (including speakers) will need to come out if you want a new head unit.
-
Seems alot for a change. Why do i need to change the speakers?
-
Bose speakers & Amp are 2Ohm, not 4Ohm like industry standard :y
-
Its not just the speakers that need to be changed....
You will need to remove the BOSE amp, subwoofer and the door speakers too..
The door speakers would need to be swapped for 4 ohm speakers and the car would need to be rewired to get everything to work...
I am going to be doing this the my Elite saloon at the weekend, I am competent enough to do it just seems a PITA just for a H/U swap...
-
true.
are the mv6 models wired up differently from the eltes then cause i didnt have this problem with that
-
Remember it's Bose that is key here, that's what makes the difference. MV6 did not have Bose as standard :y
-
oh well, looks like i got a job on my hands then. thanks
-
The only thing that will work with a new H/U is the power connector in the ISO wiring loom, everything else will need to be rewired/retro fitted.... including new wiring into the doors...
-
put very simply....
the BOSE system uses a special amplifier and BOSE choose 2 ohms for the speakers. In turn, the BOSE-equipped head unit puts out only about 1/3 volume when turned right up, as this is what their amp is expecting.
The normal head unit will blow up the amp and those speakers because it puts out too much volume.
it is possible to keep the wiring from the front to the rear, but only if you change all of the speakers to 4 ohm units and also change the sub-woofer speakers as well. you must then re-wire from BOSE amp to another amp. That's ten speakers.
considering the BOSE system sounds absolutely ace - it really isn't worth changing IMHO. Especially as you'd be stuck with a nasty after-market head unit poking out of your dash

To route the headunit directly to the speakers bypassing the Bose amp is easy enough, behind the drivers kick panel is a multiway plug where the bose etc wiring runs, you can loop the speaker wiring here (a pre-facelift loom section will help a lot here from a non bose setup as it includes the loop backs).
Next step is the speakers, they are two ohms so check your new headunit spec to see what it will work down to, if it cant handle two ohm setups then you can get motorboating as the amp becomes unstable. That said, many modern power amps are more than happy driving two ohms setups so you might be ok.
Not nearly as bad as everybody makes out.
;D

Here is the connector in question:

Always wondered what the connector looked like :y
Not sure a bit of motorboating sounds all that bad to me.. ;D

It's why I got the Kenwood (Pioneer? Clarion? I can't remember) to go in Zeke, its the closest to factory looking I could find.
