Title: Leverage is best friend! (Exhaust finally removed)
Post by: Webby the Bear on 19 February 2014, 14:32:35
Hi guys,

Got the exhaust off today. Fannymould to downpipe nuts were supertight but eased off with a loooong breaker bar.

Hopefully i'll get these studs out  ::)

The reason for replacement...note the sheered off centre silencer.... I picked it up and ''doink'' broke in two  ;D

Ps, 6 sided spark plug socket used on the downpipe nuts as suggested. Thanks martin et al  :y

Six sided sockets are the dog's kahunas for tight bolts, as I found earlier this week taking my heads off. :y

Completely agree.... plus 2ft breaker bars  ;D

Can anyone recommend an exhaust paste to use for adding between the joins when I fit the new one? I only have the repair putty which I'm assuming is too thick and not appropriate  :y

Oh and brackets for silencer to back box.... any idea what size they are? I got some 48mm ones but they're just a tad too small so I'm thinking 50mm?

Does rather depend on whether it's a decent exhaust too :y

If I decided to use a paste (just a bit on the flanges where the centre silencer and downpipe join) would a bit of Gun Gum be ok? I'm on a budget and could do with saving as much dough as poss.

ps, I think they're 54mm clamps :)

No gum gum would not be ok, you need an exhaust jointing paste and not a patching putty

Local motor factors will do a little tube for a couple of quid IME.  :y
