Same springs , same ride or are they both totally different :-\
-
I believe plod have stronger springs at the back and normally run 16" wheels
-
Didn't plod have self levelling as well
-
Same springs , same ride or are they both totally different :-\
Both different, MV6, stiffer set up lower ride height, Plod, had upgraded set up normally same ride height as normal, generally the set up was for a mixture of Handling, Weight and Sleeping Policemen.
Most Estates, not all, had Self Levelling.
Wheels were mostly 15" Steels up to DBW, DBW seem to have stuck with the GLS 16" Alloys.
Probably worth adding, in my experience for what its worth, the MV6 and Plods handle very similar when being thrown about, in fact I would go as far to say the plods (if up to spec) handle better, may be something to with 17"s on the MV6's :-\

So my springs would snap going over sleeping policemen at speed in the MV and plods would not :-\ ;D Thanks for that answer though , i was just wondering if the plod springs would have been cheaper to replace than MV ones as i heard MV springs are a bit rare and expensive :y
-
Plod will take sleeping policemen at 60, even with 18"s on :y
Apparently :-X
Zirks MV6 comparison is fair imho... Plod springs are unbreakable as near as I can tell. To put that another way mine are still original :y
-
I have a set of "plod" springs that I took off a car - when emptied of all the equipment, they add at least two inches to the ride height - they're seriously tall and seriously stiff.

yes - you'd need at least half a ton of stuff in the back to make them even remotely useable
-
Yupp!! got an AR35 in the boot of mine, does help to level things out a bit ::)
-
Anyone know the ident of plod springs?
Mine came with springs marked with an LA ident, ride height was at least an inch higher than stock, and firmer than Elite, obviously. Uncertain what the ident means. Car is defo a retail Elite though.
-
LA rings a bell :-\ could your car have been ordered with uprated suspension? Anything in the history to sugest it :-\
-
Remembering I'm not very good with the EPC, and my version is quite old ...
but it does have this ... (rear springs I'm looking at)
REAR SPRINGSSALOON (25,26,27,F69,M69,P69) FOR POLICE VEHICLE
11X SPRING, ASSY., REAR (SET), IDENT DY -V1999999 90271116 4 24 322 1
3X SPRING, ASSY., REAR (SET), IDENT LP EXC.SPORT W1000001- 90542359 4 24 020 1
8X SPRING, ASSY., REAR (SET) (FOR ARMOURED BODY) 90397132 4 24 361 1
9X SPRING, ASSY., REAR (SET), IDENT LU (NOT USED WITH REMOVABLE TOWING ATTACHMENT) SPORT Y1000001- 9193196 4 24 050 1
10X SPRING, ASSY., REAR (SET), IDENT LW (USED WITH REMOVABLE TOWING ATTACHMENT) SPORT Y1000001- 9193197 4 24 051 1
which seems to show DY, LP, LU, LW for plod ...
:-\ :-\ :-\
What confuses this simpleton .. there are no LA springs listed at all ....
-
Maybe LA is dampers then :-\
-
rear dampers are all W* except one which is L3.. :(
EDIT .. found L4 .. self levelling dampers .. :(
but no LA .. yet ..

Seem to recall that LA springs were a bit of a mystery .
I had a w reg 3.0 Elite fitted with them , very soft & wallowy, but no one could offer any definate info on this " LA" marking
HTH ;)

My '51 plate 3.2 Elite saloon had LA ident rear springs fitted as standard from new. I have replaced both sides several times always replacing them with genuine VX, and I've had no problems with them. I tow a car trailer , a caravan and heavy trailers. The air suspension compressor decided to give up the ghost a while back and then the car then sat down heavily at the back with a load on, but with a replacement compressor, the ride height remains pretty constant again no matter whats on the back.

I have got an IDENT of WR on the rears of the MV6 estate is this corrct :-\ last 3 digs are 902 on the part number ??? on the tag it has SACHS GM will have to look on the N/S tomorrow to see if anymore of the tag is still on it and check what is on the front. :y

I have recently removed a pair of rear springs from a scrap ex police 3.2 auto estate with s/l suspension. This vehicle had obviously been used by the Police right upto to it's dying day - on a skid pan as it was still fitted with extended mudflaps and aluminium plates in lieu of the lights front and back. It was nicely oiled underneath so there was no rust - just impact damage to the front. The rear springs were VX - LR ident code. Regrettably, the car has since been crushed - I got quite a few good parts off it, but it was crushed with the engine and gearbox still in it...insane, but no vehicles linger for long in that yard...

My '97 ex armed response had a snapped rear HD spring. >:( I shudder to think how the previous owner achieved that ???
-
my gold 3.0 estate has the ex plod springs off glynns car from worcester, self leveling was bit soft with the lpg tank full, self levelling shocks left in and rides great now
-
I've just been and checked my ex-plod springs for idents. Have only found the part number 700852
IMO they're not GM springs at all - fitted instead by MSD in the UK. There's no way that GM would have signed off springs so far outside the norm - with no load on board, they jacked up the rear of the car so much that there wasn't much suspension travel before the damper hit the bump stops.
