Sorry Sam, can't help, but that's a weird one!
Usually they won't eject but I don't recall any issues where the unit doesn't accept the cartridge?

Try pulling fuse 12 for 1 hour. i find it seems to get rid of the gremlins.

The Changer mechanism twists itself over time and eventually jamms up, which is the main reason that the cartridges cannot be ejected. Once a cartridge has been "persuaded" to come out, the mech is often still in a semi jammed state and will no longer allow a cartridge to be put back in.
Some have messed about with these and got them going again with a fair degree of success, but due to the age of them and the fact that parts dissappeared when Philips ceased trading back in 2000, its not something that we can support here at our repair centre any longer for this particular fault.

It most likely is a mechanism fault.
If you can find a good working unit from another stereo or a CDC3 changer, you can swap over the lower half of the stereo. You MUST swap the vertical PCB in the changer portion, as that contains the config and coding.

Mine did exactly tht the w/e when Mrs tried to use CD all i got was "magazine" , i kept trying and it eventualy worked perfectly and has kept going, i put it down to being cold and lack of use :-\ So give it another go Sam it will probably click in soon

Right I've checked the magazine and works fine it won't latch in to the cradle but when it does it partially does and stills says magazine so it's not right will I have to dissemble the head unit to try a bodge or shall I just save the bother and look for a replacement

You can try a fix Sam http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90608.0
