My power steering packed up earlier. Car was on full lock in middle of three point turn and it packed up. Thought the steering had locked as I couldnt turn the wheel. Upon closer inspection the pump was making a whurring noise which stopped after about 2 mins. Belt is fine. Pulley on pump is still turning fluid in reservoir but no power steering. I am assuming the pump has packed up. But could it be the steering box gone. I only think its the pump because of the noise it was making. Hope someone can help with this. Has this happened to anyone else. :y

Check fuse #14 first Dan

Checked fuse 14 and its fine. Rang the vauxhall breakers today and they said they have a pump but its from a 3.2. They told me that they are the same. Rob G has told me that he had one of these but no good to me as the pipework is different. Can anybody else confirm this as I dont want to go buy one from them for it not to fit. Cheers :y

Any leaks anywhere, doesn't take much to lose pressure. and yes the steering is near impossible to shift unless you moving slightly.

That's what I understand ie you can fit it but you'll need the new pipe work too

No. Not leaking. Pump making a whurring noise again now. So I assume that pump is fubarred.

Just sent you another pm Danny, may be able to check the 3.0 later today, as said, if your using a 3.2 one, you will need the pipework as well, easlier to fit a 3.0 one, I would have thought.
Chris. ;)

Have a good sniff of the pump fluid.
If its shitty dark and stinks of burning then your pump if shagged ;)
Mike Clark had a similar problem last year with his v6.
We changed the pump and most of the fluid and it was fine :)

Good opportunity to replace the fluid as I see a lot of cars with crap fluid.

Omega pumps don't like full lock, for to long.
3.0L and 3.2L pumps are different, pain to change all the plumbing.
before fitting new pump blow all old fluid out,fit new pump refill reservoir, then left to right a few times, check level, top up and left to right again.
