Title: What is your Omega consuming?
Post by: cd 2.2 on 23 February 2014, 20:36:55
Just out of interest I have been wondering what other Omega's consume petrol wise. After lots of tinkering and much hard work  my 2.2 cd auto (petrol) consumes 0.2 gal/hour with the engine up to normal operating temperature  :y It used to consume 0.3 gal/hour until I temporarily bonded the splits in the coil pack tubes!

So what I'm after is what your instant consumption is at idle on an engine that is to temperature and what engine you are running. I'm intrigued to see if there are any better than mine and if so by how much  :)

My 2.6 V6 now drops to 0.2g/ph. once warmed up with air con off, was at 0.3 before the breathers got cleaned out, idles much smoother now too.

Oooops sorry, didn't realize that meant fuel. I thought it meant cash . . .  ::)

Lol  :D I know what you mean about cash consuming mine was bought for £200 and after I have added up everything we spent to get her to the point we are at now I think the total is around £1000 including original purchase! to top it off I'm still not happy with how she is and more work is needed but my wallet needs a bit of a break  :( still got the hbv to replace and both front wheel bearings, exhaust needs every joint repairing and all the rubbers and the screenwash jets are blocked! Still I love the car so much I will spend on parts until everything is fixed ... then it's time to start where I began all over again  ;D

Ouch.

Currently running a 530D (E39) which gives 40mpg on a run (cruise set at 80mph and tested using the brim fill method), haven't got a clue what it does around town and don't really care given what fuel is costing me at the moment.

your lower on the round town than you should be, I return average 22 mpg round town but don't yet know the on a run figure as I haven't dared go on the motorway yet until I know it's reliable ... However the "book" says 19 mpg's round town so you are about right for that, I believe it's around 38 mpg's on the motorway with a light foot and autotrader says average 28 mpg's

The idle mpg is lower with a driver involvement pack fitted instead of the slush pump (typicaly 0.2mpg with aircon off)

Around 0.4gH or 0,3gH if taken out of Drive, managed to get a Chipped 3.0 MV6 Estate to average 40mpg once on a long run, if its the 3.2 LPG Estate then mainly parked up with the bonnet up consuming parts.

Round town I do tend to be "first" away from lights and gt to next set quicker than other cars so to speak. That's probably why it's low. Have tried Tescos 99 petrol which seam to bring it up to around 21mpg but don't always go past Tesco to fill up normally I fill up at esso cause it's nearer and on my way

0.2gh on idle, 25ish around town and 30ish on a run!  :y

That's up from 20ish around town and 25ish on a run, before JamesV6CDX got his hands on it and found the timing was slightly out whilst changing the cambelt!!  ::)

Cheers James!!  :y

Probably from repeatedly forgetting that those rather useless retards at Brackley BP only pretend to sell LPG to wind him up ;D

I dont know about your Omegas but the XJR runs off the fermented remains of boy racers I pick out of the grill.

Makes the 19mpg average more paletable ::)

Not sure where mine goes... :-\ no obvious smoke, and no obvious major leaks, often quite alot in the breathers though ::)

Constant oil top ups means its getting plenty of fresh oil in the system and no need for oil changes  ::) ;D

I think I'm getting a bit of a puff at startup, since I did over 20k without changing it  :-[

more like it means you have blown valve stem seals if you have no visible leaks and should really get it fixed before it breaks a whole lot worse  :D
