Title: Biggest Ever Sales
Post by: TheBoy on 25 February 2014, 14:33:59
I'm sure all our inboxes get filled with such junk.

Go Outdoors is the latest to hit my inbox, claiming their biggest ever sale, including their tent ranges.

Now, I looked at an awful lot of tents last summer, not just because I needed one for Newent, but also to get prices for the tents we lost in the explosion. So I have a pretty good idea of RRP and Go Outdoors prices.

So, if this is their Biggest Ever Sale, and the RRPs of tents and other camping equipment I have last years prices for have remained static, how come everything is more expensive that last summer, yet is in their Biggest Ever Sale?

Do people fall for this?

Must do, else they wouldn't bother :-\

'Our permanently realistic and reasonable everyday prices' doesn't quite have the same ring to it, even though it should mean better value overall :y

That said, its reminded me we need to get some bits and bobs before our next camping trip.  So I guess its sort of worked in a roundabout sort of way....

I just found something cheaper than last summer. Maybe that's the item they are using to call it the biggest ever sale!

Isn't that the place where they try to get you to pay a couple of quid for a loyalty card, and take all your personal details so they can stalk you, before they'll even sell you a gas cylinder for the price advertised in-store?

Yeah, there's a "little bit" of 235/45/17 on the surface of their car park. ::)

I would never buy anything expensive from Go Outdoors....even with the card you have to buy, to get the discount.....online sellers/other stores are cheaper....plus the salespersons arent very knowledgeable.

I went there last year to get a replacement wick ( i think thats whats its called, the mesh cover that goes over the burner) for gas lamp......they sold me a pack of three for a fiver iirc.....they are too small and as a result the gas lamp is dimmer  >:(

Mantle, TD, its called a mantle....

Yeah, they're mongrels. They have a place in life if you have a nearby store, but then so do PC World, Maplin, etc.

That said, I couldn't get my tent any cheaper elsewhere, but then, it was an awful lot cheaper by over £200 than it is in their Biggest Ever Sale ;D

Is it possible to give them false details?

I'm a firm believer in using "alternate" postcodes and phone numbers where I think there's a risk of junk - this includes giving the staff in a certain catalogue retailer I used to work at, their own postcode when they ask me for my home address...

Yes, me too, but I decided a rapid exit to a supplier more worthy of my money was more appropriate in this instance. ;D

I filled a trolly the other year,
the advertised prices didnt mention a loyalty card,

so I left a couple of hundred quids worth of stuff for them to re stock, and went to towsure, who were cheaper.

Round these parts, the only 3 independent places I know of are horrendously expensive, with poor stock levels  :'(

Christ. One imagines plenty of people will have turned up with theirs, so as to have somewhere to stay overnight...

Well, you missed out, 2 halls were completely taken over by tents and camping equipment.

That's the correct way to treat tents, other than setting fire to them :y
