Title: Just for an exhaust ???
Post by: Jusme on 07 March 2014, 11:06:09
Spent most of yesterday afternoon trying to get an exhaust. Ended up e-mailing ETS and Eternalcar. Most impressed got reply from both of them.. But a little perplexed by the response from Eternalcar:>

Thank you for your enquiry.

We need to know the following details to provide you with the correct exhaust pieces:

 - your car registration number
 - your car make and model
 - body shape of your car
 - year of production
 - engine capacity (cm3/l)
 - power output in kW and HP
 - fuel type (diesel, petrol)
 - if it has a cat fitted
 - engine code

Thank you for your cooperation in advance.

 Looking forward to your reply.

If you needed any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.

 Best regards,

Exhausts are a different shape for saloons and estates for starters... ::)

Also, probably due to distance selling rules, if you provide (or not) information that is asked for then it's on your head if it doesn't fit.

If they ask the questions and ignore the answer, or fail to ask in the first place then that's their problem. By asking every conceivable question, the order is much more likely to be fulfilled to your satisfaction :y

Last time I contact Eternalcar they said to tell them the Bosal part number!!

Needless to say I went elsewhere.

It could simply be that they use Bosal tooling measurements, so pop a part number into the machine and out pops the correct shape exhaust :y

Given that Bosal produce aftermarket exhausts for pretty much every car on the planet, that's actually pretty shrewd as it gives Eternal direct access to global manufacture specs at presumably a fraction of the price Bosal would have paid :-\

Am fully aware saloons and estates require different exhausts. But I initially sent them year, make, model and engine size. Looking at Mark's link, from 1994 - end of run, no difference 3ltr or 3.2? As to fuel type, 'petrol/diesel'. Did Vauxhall/Opel make a 3.2 diesel Omega ?? And how would I know the power output since new, h.p. and kW? Unless tampered with, obviously a cat is fitted. Is the 3.2 a different engine code depending on Omega model ? I do agree about gaining as much information as possible, but so much 'overkill' these days. And now..... :-X

Jusme, just so you are aware, all these exhaust suppliers sell exhausts that may be classed a tad short for facelifts (which is possibly why Eternal do not list a 3.2 one - the 3.0l saloon one is the one to go for (assuming you still have a saloon)).

You *may* find you need a trim piece just to extend the backbox out beyond bumper, although most don't bother. This is because the facelift rear bumper sits out further than the prefacelift one.

For the customer to have to find out information from a company for another company to sell a product is downright shabby :(

Had to have a chuckle at one of the sites I went on, claiming, 'we only use top quality products like Timax or Bosal'.. I'm assuming that the Timax is from T.I. who I worked for years ago. Their exhausts were like 'fag papers'...

Was wondering about that Jamie. Bought a Polish exhaust before for my old blue Omega, tail pipes reached almost to the bottom of the rear bumper, so probably needed tail pipe chrome bits? But then I thought about the 'do it by the book' Mr. Plod who years before said, 'you cannot have anything protruding beyond the extremities of the car'.... Take off your towbars boys.... ;)
