Title: Tinted Windows
Post by: Mr.OmegaMan on 07 March 2014, 21:23:57
Anyone had their cars rear windows tinted ?

Looking for some pictures, Ideally a FL saloon in Nocturno Blue to give me an idea....  :)

Plus what should I expect to pay roughly..

Not after really dark tints, Just smoked say.  :y

As an alternative you could use these Privacy Shades (http://www.privacy-shades.co.uk/)

Got some myself after seeing a post about them on here - think it was Marie who had some that were seen at a meet

They are very good and suited my needs - plus if you change to another mig you can move them over

I got my estate ones off Ebay from Vanstyle-UK (http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/vanstyle-uk) £68 + £10pp - bargain i now know, Came with a bag you can store them in

If I recall you can contact them and order for any car, even if not listed

Just as a footnote.
They are flat when delivered and I shaped mine to the the curve of the glass
When you open you rear windows the shade stays in place - unlike tints
They have little clips that slide into the edges of the glass surround - effective but not 100%
The material is like a net curtain weave, surrounded by a metal frame, very good at keeping out the light but can be damaged
Our middle daughter says they make her feel sick when travelling, but she's been a drama queen since birth, nobody else has complained

My estate has limo tint on all rear doors and windows, really keeps cool in summer, and stops people being nosey into the car also cuts down on headlight glare at night. Cost £180 all done :y

I had a set of privacy shades on my Vectra, they was brilliant TBH, looked liked tints and acted like tints too.... very very easy to install...

Previous car had tints.

Good points. Keeps temp down. Less glare and shadows from street lights. Gives a nicer atmosphere in the car. It does look smart.

Bad points. Cost. Quality of fitting varies. Visibility is poor, akin to a van. Rear view mirror becomes redundant at night. Rear blind becomes pointless in a saloon.
Pulling up at an angle at a junction is dodgy at night if you need to look through the rear window. Checking blind spot is almost pointless as you can only really see lights at night, unlit side of a vehicle is MUCH less obvious, and opening the rear window isn't practical in life saving type circumstances like checking blind spot.

My 3.2 has them, had them when I got it. Although I removed the front tints, as they were illegal!

Plus points:

Cut's down glare in both night and day
Reduces heat inside
Looks quite nice on lighter colours I think.

Cons:

At night, reversing, is errrr fun! Good job it has parking sensors!

How long did delivery take? Only reason I ask is because I have just ordered a set from them directly on their webshop and they say 3-5 days. Price is the same though.

Well, to update this a little, I ordered the privacy shades Sunday evening about 9.30-10pm and had a message on Monday morning saying that they needed to be ordered in. I rang the company up (VanStyle) and they said that they were having them delivered to their premises from the manufacturer that day (turns out the manufacturer is nearby) and they turned up today in work about 10am via UKMail. Can't beat that for service, and all for £78 inc delivery.

Quality looks top notch, fitting instructions included and a very nice looking holdall to keep them in when not on the car.

I will get pics later, but really look like they are worth the money in quality alone.

Just had a thought about this

Aren't the estate back doors the same as a the saloon back doors (i'm sure i'll be corrected if wrong) so all you need is those four from the estate pack as your elite has a rear blind

What you think ? Try another email or a phone call will get a quicker response

Doesn't look like they are the same. Hard to find a bang on side picture when you want one  ::)
