Title: Got some heads should I ?
Post by: Martin_1962 on 09 March 2014, 12:47:27
1) Sell as is, a bit tatty, needs a clean but solid

3) Regrind the valves and drop new seals and sell as serviced

3) Leave for the scrap man

What I would do, if no history of HG Fail, then 1, if from HG Fail, then 3, the third 3, not the second 3, which I believe should be 2.

Probably wont recover your time or money for number 2, which is what you call the second 3, as in number 2, not the third 3 as in the last one.  :D

If I bought heads advertised as option 2, I'd be stripping them just to be sure. Which means I wouldn't be paying any more than I would for option 1.

So if you can be bothered with the hassle of selling them, do it as they are now. Then if/when they don't sell, bin them. This is how you stop being a hoarder with all your storage rammed full of utter crap.

they are, just I have a few unused valve seals lying around somewhere, enough for a couple of heads!

Got exactly the same predicament. Except mine have all valves removed as they were all bent and the guides are all broken and the seals are all hard.

I'm going to refurbish mine though so that I've got them as spare as I'm trying to get a million miles out of my omega  8) :y

You and Martin should swap; you get worthwhile bits for your scrap, which he weighs in. Everybody is happy.
The combined power of the internet and forums at work!

I would hang on to them as they are. I doubt refurbing them would fetch you much more money, and some would prefer to do that themselves.

You might need to bide your time until someone has a failure, though.

If they are gasflowed, Id keep them, if not then just chuck them or keep as spares...

Iv just thrown my old V6 heads away (14 bent valves) and also a head off an X20XEV (12 bent valves)... just no value in them at all, because theres no weight on them especially the V6 heads....

I was going to rebuild the V6 heads - just on case - but I thought that about the X20 head too, I had that for 2 years and all its done is attract a lot of corrosion.....
