You drove a car?
I remember at about 7 years old sitting my Dad’s knee, in the car and steering, that was in a place called Clumber park. :)
I got my hands on a Ford 100E when I was 12, having had a good fiddle with it I got the local farmer to tow me to get it going, it would not tow start yet everything was working. I had it in first gear, which of course was reverse in the 100E :-[ put it into second and away we went, had hours of fun driving round a field. ;D ;D ;D
When I was about 14 my Dad got me a Fiat 600, i could get it into 3rd gear along the drive, as log as I was quick. On the odd occasion if parents were out I used to have a quick run up the road in it. :o
When I was 15 I joined the Royal Navy and they had a motor club, used to drive and do auto tests in a Triumph Herald or a Morris 1000. :y
When I was 17 I passed my test in a Hillman Avenger, when I passed my test my first car was a Mini Woody Traveller with a push button floor starter. Reg 66 77 UP, how I wish I still had that reg number. ;D ;D ;D
-
I cant remember my age, but was allowed to turn the wheel while Dad worked the pedals to put the car in the garage.
It was an Orange VW Beetle.
-
Used to drive my brothers truck aged 13.
First car was a Hillman Minx when i pased my test aged 17.
Second car was a Vauxhall Victor 2.0.. Aged 18.. :y

14 When i drove my dad's triumph herald around a (deserted) carpark in Mudeford, 15 when i bought my first car, ford 100E, which i had for 1 week and did approx 200 yrds in! Bought for the sum of £12 and sold to mate for £15. 16 when i used to "drive" his Vaux PB Cresta in our works carpark nearer to to exit gate afterwork and wait for him. Didn't have car until i was 21 as i was an apprentice and couldn't afford one. Passed test and bought Singer Chamois (Imp) with wide wheels, t shift, 9" steering wheel and Recaro seats. Thought it was the dog's dangly bits! :)

i was reversing the car in and out of the garage at 14, by 15 i was a member of the shell young drivers club and we were driving in controlled environments, i had a good idea of how to drive by then and was taught road craft

I was really lucky as a boy because my Dad was a manager at the Esso refinery at Trafford Park in Manchester so I had steered artics(on my Dads knee) and driven trains (shunters) at a very early age.

That is something I would like to have a go at. :)

Driving trains!............ ahh boyhood dreams :)

My mates dad worked in a big coal depot and as kids we used to go there and watch all the shunters moving the coal waggons round. No jobsworths and H&S in those days. Wouldn't be allowed nowadays :(

Does a tractor or dumper count, because in which case i'd be around 6 years old with my dad working the pedals, but on my own i was around 10 years. Also drove my first track laying vehicle around 7 years, i'd stand up & as i recal there was only two levers, one for left & one for right & thought it was sooooo 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) It was very easy to drive even though it weighed around 10 tons. I talked about it for weeks at school :y
-
13, used to go fishing with my dad, let me drive it down the country lanes to the river.
-
17, stalled, said i'd never drive again and didnt til i was 23!!
-
10, maybe younger, holidays with cousin and his parents. my uncle used to let us take it turns each night to steer as he used pedals and 'park' the car up outside the caravan we were staying in somewhere near cromer in norfolk! ahh those were the days...! was a vw beetle (old style)

It was fast enough......the airfield was in no great state to go to fast on!
It was even better once we got inner tubes for the tyres because the gravel kept knocking the tyre beads of the rims!

I was Driving around at 16 on a couple of Private Road in my Dad's Austin Mini, then at 16 1/2 I brought my first car a Vauxhall Viva HB 1159cc on a K plate, so at 17 I was on the road that day with all the right stuff (insurance, MOT, Tax & L-plates etc etc) with Dad sat next to me, driving to my Nan's in Worfield, Nr Bridgenorth, Solop from Oxford, that was a great trip all those years ago, not much traffic then :y

I never drove a car until I had my first BSM driving lesson. At Kings Cross, in the rush hour. We didn't get very far.
We lived in the West End and keeping a car just wasn't a practical proposition, and, anyway, why would you want to go anywhere else? So, eventually, I saved up my pennies (literally) and bought myself a course of 6 lessons from the nearest driving school. Then I took my test.
Guess what - I failed >:(
This went on for couple of years - save up, buy six lessons, fail test. Got it on the fifth attempt. I bought a car before I went for the test, so I had to pass or I'd have looked a right bloody fool.
40 years later, I'm still trying to pass the Advanced Driving test. :(

HB on a K plate??? Must've been an HC (the last one) Most of these were 1256 but some early ones had the 1159 hb engine. :y

HB changed to HC on an H or J plate so no K plate Hb's. The HB had a similar body style & sloping dash as the Mk3 'Tina.
(My favourite car of all time 8-))
