Title: Air filter wadding/filter/"stuff"
Post by: TheBoy on 10 March 2014, 10:01:05
Came across this, told its normal. Why the extra wadding?

as a silencer? Extra filter to stop bigger bits like leaves(unlikely I know) clogging the filter? as a packer to hold the paper filter in place?
Probably a combination of all of those, although I doubt it does much of any of them. After all, it is a German car, and they go to all sorts of complicated lengths for what  is really only a theoretical improvement.

Is the same filter used on Insignia? Thinking it's EU rule for newer cars?  :-\

The filter I bought from Vauxhall for my sister in law's Astra J was like that too.

I bet it's their new 'standard' for filter, they can't be bothered to make one without for older cars...

No, that's proper stock-control. It makes perfect sense to anyone who has had to do that sort of work.

Imagine the fuss you'd all be making if the 'old' filters had this wadding, and new ones didn't!

I get it's cheaper to mass produce the same filter, hence saying it  ;)

The point being the Omega has never needed this extra wadding before, the engine management and breathing was setup without this. I bet that lot of the updated parts here were not tested on the older models (as why would they?)

Why on earth would you assume that TB (known Omega lover) would be posting about an Omega air filter on this Omega forum.. I don't know, some people.. ;) ;D

(OK, you'd hope he'd use the right forum section if he was, I suppose ;D)
