Why do people let tyre places use clip on weights on their alloys? It damages the paint and allows crappy salty water to sit under the weight and eat into the paint/alloy

Look at them arches mor brown stuff than the titanic :)
-
So now the real work starts :D
-
So do they buy these in to work on? Must be some good stuff for you here Webby. ::) ::) ::)
-
They basically get the cars donated :y as its a 2.5 I got my eyes on a few things :-X ;D
-
Hopefully not the rear arches ;D
Being an Elite, there might be some bits and bobs, though yours is a facelift iirc :-\

Forgive my ignorance, but what should they use instead of clip-on weights on alloys?
Ron.

Stick on, on the inside of the rim - out of sight. If you look on various newer rims, there isn't a lip for a clip-on weight anyway.

Stick on behind spokes. If that doesn't work out, refit tyre correctly so weights are hidden

You'd be surprised just how many wheels are badly buckled and need lots of weights all over the place. A good tyre fitter will mention this to you. Many don't, so you can't say when the damage might have occured. They're gambling on the simple fact that most people have absolutely no idea what is involved in balancing a wheel properly.

And that includes most fitters ;D

if you want to know how good a tyre fitter is ask him what the lines are for on a new tyre.

Or the dots. Even if they don't know what the lines are for, the dots are essential to tyre fitting
-
bloody hell webby there not going to let you loose on that as well :P :P :-X :-* :-* :y :y
-
They let me loose on everything for their sins, Ozzy :D ;D
Good fun when I forgot to drain the line to my buzz gun of compressed air :o
5m line shot across the room and smacked a car and dented it :o ::)

Lucky there was no one in the way :o
