Title: Key / alarm problem??
Post by: asshole on 19 March 2014, 18:45:59
Just bought another 3.0 omega but got the facelift model this time. Notice the buttons on the key doesnt work for the car, so put the key in the door to open it any the hazzard lights start going off until i put the ignition on.  ??? Any ideas on how to fix the problem? Put a new battery in the key and turned on the ignition and continued to push all the buttons to see if she will pick it up but nothing happens?

I had the problem of the alarm going off when opened with key in door turned out to be the switch in the door wasn't catching on lock mech worn by looks of it. I've no idea of the fob not working would suggest the battery in fob but if you've changed it then I don't know

Key in ign. to position II. Try locking doors from button. If no joy it`s either the wrong fob or the microswitches are knackered. "Martin Imber" on here does a repair job.
To prevent hazards flashing, exit car, ensure key in hand, close all doors then open rear O/S and press lockpin down on driver`s door then shut rear door, alarm is de-activated

So, we know the power sounder is shagged (remove, throw it in bin), the alarm horn is shagged (replace if you want) and either:

fob needs resyncing
or
fob needs repair.

Both are straightforward, easy operations. Though for repair, the switches are surface mount, but large enough to tackle with most fine irons :y

Its a 3 button the switches knacker themselves for breakfast.

My record is 4 sets, as I replaced well before knackering

I find better quality switches last better - I haven't had to change mine again, but its only been about 3 years...

Ofb was dodgy when car bought, replaced those after a couple of years when I found better, those lasted until I reswitched so I could sell it in better condition.

5 years for 4.5N tactile switches, the rubber disintegrates
