As per post, I'm getting a very sporadic washer fluid level warning on the dash (and the check light which is annoying)! This happens intermittently and it doesn't matter how much is in the bottle ??? Tonight I took the sensor out as I'm lucky to have a F/L mig and as soon as you open the bonnet you can see it. The thing was covered in a green algae type gunge, so I promptly cleaned it up well and re fitted the sensor ... Now it's worse than ever ;D I'm guessing that the sensor is buggered but I thought I would ask for other opinions to confirm my suspicions before just going and getting a new one!
After being told about the no screenwash thing being a very bad idea I immediately went on the search for something suitable. Now I use Prestone All Season Screen Wash :) This stuff is amazing, it has something in it that repels the rain water on the screen so even when driving in rain that would usually require wipers on speed 1 you can comfortably get away with intermittent! Only down side is that there isn't really a smell to it as such so a bit boring on that front

Easy way to check if sensor or wiring is to unplug, short out the wiring with a paperclip (insulate it though, to stop it touching anything else, and drive around for a day or so. If that cures it, you know its sensor.
9 times out of 10, its the sensor, but I have seen corrosion in those front looms before.

Oh, and sensors are reliable enough to use 2nd hand. No idea how much from a dealer (bet its dealer only part).

Can you help an ignoramus please - where is the sensor?
Ron.

Facelift or PFL?
-
FL - open bonnet, look down near where washer filler goes into washer bottle, and you can see sensor sticking out backwards.
PFL - Easier to see with bumper off, but it sticks out sideways on the passenger (RHD) side of bottle.

Facelift - 2.6 V6 petrol saloon, '51 reg.

Our messages crossed, but thanks a lot - simpler than I imagined!
I will look out for a sensor next time I'm near a breakers, because I occasionally get false alerts, even after I've just filled the screenwash.

Think the new tanks are around £30 from main dealer. :y

going to bridge it today and see if it stays off ... has to really for the stupid new M.O.T rules >:( why would it matter if you had a warning lamp on anyway??

Got a few known good wash level sensors here if needed :)

I was told by my local Vx dealer today this lovely piece of information ... The sensor is not available to purchase on it's own from Vx anymore. If however, you need a switch desperately, They can sell you an entire "tank" which "includes" the sensor .... This item is currently £39 + V.a.t and is widely stocked in the u.k dealerships
This is for a FL like mine not a pre FL

for the screen wash tank as pictured above :y

Lot of extra work and cost to buy/replace tank complete, if all that is required is a replacement level sensor.Cheap enough off the bay new
Typical VX....sell you a replacement engine when all that is required is a spark plug.. " but the new engine does come with them fitted, sir " ;D
