I'm guessing that this is a result of the previous HGF on this car! This morning while taking the oldest to nursery I noticed (much to my dismay) that the exhaust sounded like someone has put marbles in it!
As soon as I got home I had a look under the car (with what good weather we did have) but found nothing loose and the rattle was emanating from the catalytic convertor!! ::)
I have noticed throughout the day that the car seems a little sluggish to get going but is fine once your rolling, all through the acceleration at low speeds the exhaust is making a horrid noise! To me this seems like the catalytic convertor is collapsing and I know on an Auto this is not a good thing ::)
The whole system needs to be replaced anyway and during my visit to Vx to pick up some parts they said to me that their systems are no better than most others on the market these days ???
Now I'm worried about fitting "pattern" and from the last episode of Crap pattern part failure it's got to be genuine parts wherever possible (I know you all warned me about this issue)!
What is the best catalytic convertor to buy for the car (2.2 cd auto, saloon, FL) ? SirPhilbut has the backbox I will go and fetch ASAP and I know Eternal are very well recommended here but I can't find the items on their site ???
I welcome any opinions as I know I will be lucky to see any length of time with the existing catalytic convertor in this condition! Only thing I really want to achieve is to keep the twin centre boxes and get the car Ultra quiet, that's the way I like the car to be :)
Cheers Graham

Pattern cats can be ok and are not too noisy on the 4pot, though a genuine one is preferred
I have a genuine one here but the flexi joint needs replacing (common).
