Title: Exhaust hair
Post by: robson on 22 March 2014, 16:00:57
I have 1 strand of hair coming out of tail pipe do I assume that the baffle has gone and will it get worse .Is it only the back box that has this hair. Are exhaust centres  ok for a replacement. Any recommendations

Pull it out, but wear gloves as it's a type of fibreglass and itches like buggery :y

Eternal of ebay on mine.

But now ETS is the normal supplier, again off ebay. Iirc they are the same system anyway.

Thing is Exhaust centres rarely fit anything they haven't supplied. So if going ETS/ebay, you need an independent to fit or diy.

My local tyre place fitted my last exhaust for about 30 notes, so no harm in asking :y

The chain type places always give some shit about not guaranteeing their work or the fit/suitability of the parts if they didn't supply them... just an excuse to btf out of a job with no come back... Onanists >:(

Well that's the thing, its a fair point to an extent. There's a lot of crap exhausts out there that don't fit. Causes a nightmare and hours of labour to sort out.

The chains don't want the agro. Same as the independents and the owners don't. The chains also want to make the profit on the parts as well though, more to the point.

ETS/Eternal ones off ebay fit, and follow the original clam shell design. Quiet too. Only slight annoyance is the tail pipe length is a fraction short on face lifts, due to the deeper bumper. Easily sorted with some chrome tail pipes or a chav me Irmscher back box. ;)

I fished all the fibreglass out today what an unbelievable amount came out filled up a large bin bag.
The car is running better and suprisingly not very noisy. Are there any problems running like this until I make a decision on which way to repair, exhaust fitter, or buy myself and find a garage to fit it. Can the back box be removed on its own without too much swearing  or is it best to fit cat back. Is the fit at cat a flange or spigot fit.

If it's not blowing, I would leave it tbh. When the time comes it will be easier to replace cat back as the back box rarely comes off cleanly...

The reason the boxes split is simply that the hair bunches up in the exhaust flow and causes a blockage. When you bury the throttle to try and clear the sluggishness that results the build up of pressure pops the seams on the silencers. Having removed the hair, you should have avoided that problem :y

Get the complete system in the garage/shed ready, then when the current one fails, pop into an independent with the car and get them to swap it over :y

I ran mine for over a year without the fibre glass in the back box, no problem. When the time came to replace the exhaust from the cats back I used premium-car off E-Bay, good price, quick delivery and good quality. :y

That's what I like to hear, Just had a text from swmbo saying that she has just pulled out what looks like a huge wig from the exhaust; I won't tell her it might go bang........ :D :D
