Title: Squeak when driving off
Post by: Andy663 on 26 March 2014, 08:00:27
I'm getting a light squeak from the rear wheels when I drive off, as the car speeds up so does the squeak until it stops once I get to about 15mph. What's the likely cause?

Does it re-appear if you then slow down to under 15mph, or does it disappear altogether once you are on your way?

Hi,
It comes and goes, sometime I hear it when I slow down but usually once I get going it's fine. Only really notice it when the cars been sitting for a few hours.

My guess would be that the brake pads have got a sharp edge on them. Might be worth taking them out and filing a chamfer on the leading a trailing edges?

Might also be the handbrake mechanism, so worth taking the disk off and giving it a clean up and adjust?

Location pins/springs/top hats on handbrake shoes normally favourite for squeaks. Rubbing on drum.
