Title: 3.2 elite codes and limp mode
Post by: ffcgary1 on 28 March 2014, 18:51:47
Right, i am starting a new thread as this was starting to get a bit messy,
As some might remember my dads 3.2 has been giving all kinds of greif, going in and out of limp mode at all different times, and conditions.
It all started with
P0420 BANK 1 CAT BELOW THRESHOLD
and was cleared with his hand held scanner.
Then he begain getting the car and spanner light with codes
P01700 SERVICE VECHILE SOON REQUEST FROM TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE.

INTERMITT  P100 MAF

Now after taking it to vx in chichester he has a print out detailing the following codes
P0748 NOT PRESENT??
P730 PRESSURE REGULATOR SOLONOID OPEN CIRCUIT
P0748 PRESSURE CONTROL SOLONOID A CIRCUIT ELECTRICAL????????? (I thought it was not present)

They are unable determin what the fault might be and releived his wallet of £300 notes

6 months ago he had a problem with his g/box selector switch after driving through a flood water, but it dried its self out and seemed to  be ok but i think some of the tranny issues COULD be connected to a dodgy selector switch.

I have had a conversation with Kevin Wood but that was previous to the vx investigation. He agreed that some might also be connected to MAF throwing the fuel trims out but needs live data to determin this.
My dad took the car last week to his local garage and they told him the P1700 CODE WAS FUEL TRIM BANK 1 MALFUNCTION AND CHANGED THE LAMBDA SENSOR ON THE WRONG BANK (2)
So there is a poss that the lambda sensor on bank 1 is still the issue but i doubt it very much

As i am piggy in the middle with this and my dads still not seeing that he needs to get the car looked at by people who know what they are doing and seeing with tech 2 cos Vauxhall Chichester dont seem to or his local spanner monkey

Thoughts pls

Gary

The 1700 is the reason for limp. So get gearbox and ABS codes read. Although your reader has picked up some gearbox solenoid codes, so that may point you in the right direction

Actually, do we know what is coming back after being cleared. IME, that 0420 won't throw an erroneous MAF fault, and MAF won't throw a 0420.

0420 is cat efficiency, not (directly) related to closed loop running.

Once again, this shows why codes alone are not enough. From memory, there are multiple 1700 codes, the most common being "SVS from TCM", which basically means the gearbox ECU has asked the engine to produce less power due to a fault it has detected. Thus reading the TCM. You appear to have some TCM codes related to solenoids, so if these codes have come back, then that's where to concentrate efforts
