Title: Last rites.
Post by: Rioja2.5V6 on 30 March 2014, 19:23:30
Here we have it - 1994 2.5 V6 auto CDX saloon with genuine £75K. However, there are some issues.
MOT expires on 4th April & will fail for the first time due to rear coil spring condition. Other faults include an exhaust manifold stud leak; AC not working; water leak into passenger footwell. Apart from that there is nothing  wrong. Fully electric seats still work & should not have been fitted to a CDX.

Worth no more than scrap? But cannot bear the thought as we have owned it a long time.

What do we do?

Springs around £70 the pair, AC (some don`t bother getting it sorted) water leak sounds like blocked scuttle

you have to save that one, It's got so little wrong with it from what you have mentioned it would be a shame to frag the old girl  ???
Rear springs are really easy to fit, if the exhaust manifold leak isn't too bad you should get through the mot as a minor leak of exhaust gas (advisory item) and I have to agree on the water leak being the scuttle drain just underneath the pollen filter!

Welcome to Oof  :y

You have to admire OOFers enthusiasm. I wish I hadn't parted with my old one in 2011 for a mere £100 after all the dosh I had lavished on her. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Lots of good advice. The manifold leak is not bad enough to fail the MOT but it is a bit too noisy for comfort. I will do the springs, have a look at the solution for the leak & keep it a little longer. First registered on 21/04/1994.
However I cannot be without one of these so have acquired a 2001 2.5CDX manual - 52K genuine miles & full VX service history. However the radio/cassette/cd is rubbish.

Water in passenger footwell appears to have been solved - suggestion that the problem was a blocked skuttle drain on the pollen filter side has been checked. Yes, it was full of crud of all sorts - almost needed a dredger. Have to say that the pollen filter has not been changed for ?? years. New pollen filter will be fitted, and the removed inulation & carpets put back when it stops raining.
