He had also reportedly made a kill at 1340 Meters! I have done a lot of full bore shooting at Bisley, and 1200 yards was well far enough. :-X

And I don't suppose that the 5.56mm would reach 1200 yds with much steam. I think that they use something like 8.65 for the long range sniper rifles now. :y

Did they go out to 600 with the SA80? With the SLR the Queen Mary was from 500yds down to 100.  :-\ :-\ :-\

By far the best military rifle I ever shot was the G3.  It kicked like a mule but I could manage a 1" group at 200m with the iron sight.  I would have liked to try it at a longer distance, it's 7.62 so a fair old amount of muzzle velocity.

It was obvious it was a very effective weapon, it's predecessor did kill hundreds of thousands on the Eastern front in WW2.

I wont share my views on the SA80 MK1 or 2.  The words aren't fit for a public forum.

I liked the SLR although, being a fairy, my personal weapon was the 9mm sterling sub machine gun.

Me too, used it for 11 years at Bisley, and got very fond of it. :'(
